Hi Alm- Basil's just over a year, and weighs about 20kgs. He's got a Basenji build, just a bit bigger.
BTW, I LOVE Nina's eyes! She's got fire in her lol

Hi and welcome!
Your girl looks very regal- what a pretty girl!
I have a basenji/shepherd mix also- they don't look very similar though- here's a pic of Basil:
lol how cute! what kind of dog is that on the left?
The dog on the left is Pocket Rocket- she's a real mutt! A greyhound/ridgeback lab/staffy, apparently. So close, but no cigar, nina
Just wanted to jump in to agree with everybody else- keep Baroo and Oba separated at mealtimes for now, otherwise the risk of resource-guarding/fights over food is very high. Maybe once Oba has settled in and knows the house rules, and where she fits into the family, you can start thinking about changing the eating arrangements.
I also wanted to add to remember to give Baroo his own special time alone with you, and if necessary, some time where Oba isn't bugging him. I think it'll help him through the process of accepting a new member into the pack.
Is this the same basenji that you're having problems with?
If so, you might find it difficult to rehome him and I hope you're going to inform his new owners about his behaviour problemsβ¦
Would you consider keeping Duke and working through his issues? It sounds like he would greatly benefit from some obedience training and exercise, and a consult with a behaviorist would help address his stranger-aggression.
Hi Kim!
Great to see you and your 3 badsenji's on here
Basil only passes gas when there's company over And BOY does it stink!
Thanks everyone- I absolutely adore my furkids. They aren't too big, thank goodness- still small enough to both fit on the bed LOL
Basil looks a lot wiser than he acts, I think He's a real character- my partner says he's actually a little horror disguised as an angel. Lucky for him he looks so cute!
Pocket's a real mongrel- a greyhound/ridgeback/lab/staffy cross. I got her as a pup from a BYB before I knew better. Her full name is actually Pocket Rocket- named because she was the runt of the litter and can run like the wind :).
Found one of my faves that I HAD to post lol.
Pocket wanted some pics of her on the basenji forum too.
I would certainly have to agree with you about NZ's appeal. I think the LOTR movie helped a lot in promoting our image LOL. I love the country- don't think I would/could live anywhere else, really!
I certainly hope you're able to make your way over here (again)- although it is quite far to travel
P.S. there are some pics up
Here's some pics of my wee man, Basil. He's a basenji/gsd cross- but he looks most like a dingo according to everyone we meet :P.
Chilling out at home
Look at that face! I love it.
Basil heart bones. Here you can see his non-basenji constantly shedding coat.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome I'll post some pics of my two ratbags in the picture forum.
Renault- I'm from Christchurch, in the South Island. It's a beautiful city- have you been over?
Hi all!
I've been lurking for a wee while and this looks like a great forum :).
We recently adopted a basenji/german shepherd mix from the dog rescue where I volunteer- his name is Basil and he's a rascal. He loves chasing the hose, birds, noisy cars- basically anything that makes noise and/or move fast. He also likes stealing socks and plastic bags and checking out what's on the kitchen bench and coffee table. It's been challenging but so worth it!
I also own a greyhound mix called Pocket Rocket and they're best of friends.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and chatting with you all here
