RE: Underwear
My basenji kowboy loved underwear and socks. Especially guests. I would warn them to keep their door closed. That never worked. Kowboy really seemed to love my mother-in-laws panties best. He threw them all over the room everytime she left the door open. I made my husband clean it up. He never ruined them only rolled on them and threw them in the air. He could also open closets, suitcases, drawers etc. It always made me laugh.

RE: Poisonous Foods
Hi, I'm new around here. I just wanted to add that xylitol is highly toxic to dogs. It is a type of sugar and is found in gum, toothpaste, diet foods etc. A very small amount can kill your dog. My basenji died in february. A day after I he died I saw in the news that xylitol was deadly for canines. I had used it very occationally and worried I had killed my own dog. When I question the vet, she had never heard of it. She researched xylitol with poison control and luckly put my fears about killing my basenji to rest. I now read label very carefully and do not allow it in my house. Just another note. My dentist recommended that I use it for my kids to prevent tooth decay. He also did not know it was poisonous.

Hello
Hi, I'm Smilinhoundz. I currently do not have any dogs. I lost my Basenji Kowboy(10) in February and My Greyhound Indy(12) in May. I miss them both. The longest I have ever gone without a dog is 2 months. I am a California native living in Illinois for the past 4.5 years. I am looking to relocate back to Ca. as soon as a job position for my husband opens up. Until then I have decided to foster basenji rescues with BRAT organization. I will be on vacation in CA until July and then hopefully I will be a great foster mom. My family and friends are a little nervous that I might end up adopting all who enter my home. As a kid I always wanted a Basenji. I read everything I could find on the breed. I was working as a teller in a bank and a couple brought their young basenji in with them. It was the first time I had seen one in person. I thought it was the most beautiful dog I had ever seen. I got Kowboy soon after and loved every challenging minute of him. I still can't believe he is gone. Hopefully I can do his memory justice and provide a safe, loving temporary home for basenjis in need. I will keep you posted.
