yeahhh Aurora is very social with all different kinds of dogs its just the bark of any big dog that makes her shy, other then that she loves other dogs and people. thanks everyone for your input!

My basenji puppy is afraid of barking dogs?
I took my 13 week old basenji puppy Aurora to a dog kennel where she has her obedience classes today to practise some clicker training before her puppy classes start to get her use to the facility. She was doing really well and offering lots of sits and downs until a dog boarding there started barking. she became petrified and was so worked up she wouldn't accept food or focus on anything. the second the dog stopped barking she was completely fine. i was not sure if she did this cause she was in a strange place or if she really did fear the sound of a barking dog. a few minutes ago i decided to test if she would be the same at her home so i played a barking dog on youtube. she jumped off my lap the second the video started and hid behind the couch. has anyone else ever encountered this before? i am going to try and get her use to different videos and train her at home and see if she can become more comfortable with the barking and take her back to the facility a few more times before she starts class which will have 8 other puppies in it. anyone have any other suggestions? the puppy has been socialized with many different breeds already so it is not the fear of dogs just the deep barking of a grown dog. thank you in advanced for any help you can give me.

Chewing problems
Hello,
My 10 week old Basenji puppy Aurora loves to chew. She chews everything, including people and it can hurt a bit. Unless she is sleeping or winding down from playing if she can get a hold of your fingers she will. I know lots of puppies chew its a phase a lot of them go through but out of all the puppies i have had i have never had a puppy bite and chew this much. I have just been ignoring her when she does it by putting her back onto the floor and refusing to play with her if she bites. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to deal with this? Any replies will be helpful.
Thank You!

What is the best basenji puppy collar?
Hey!
I know it is best to have a martingale collar for an adult basenji but do puppies need them as well? and if so where can i find some that fit basenji puppies? I have been looking online for a while and i can not find any for puppies. Does anyone have any good sites they use or know where to get a hold of some. Thank you in advance!

RE: Difficulty moving on, 6 years later
Hey Laura. I had a beautiful rottie/lab/boxer cross a few years back when i was around 16 years old. He was my best friend and till this day i am completely angry at myself for what i did. When he was six months old i was trying to do something and he would not give me peace cause he wanted to play so i kicked him out of my room. I guess after that he managed to sneak out of the house and follow someone down to the farm next to my house. The idiot decided it was find to operate heavy machinery with a 6 month puppy around. He got caught in one of the machines and was killed. I still remember to this day my dad coming to my room covered in his blood to tell me the news. I fell to my knees screaming and crying and i cried for years and years. It is so hard to love something and have it ripped from you so easily. I thought the only way to get through the pain was to get another puppy which i did the next day i drove 3 hours and picked up the last puppy of a litter of berneese/rottie/lab puppies. She is about 4 now and the most amazing, loving, gentle, big lap dog i have ever seen. I always found though that there was a wall between me and her because i got her mourning over another dog and i found i could never love her enough because all i wanted was my other puppy back. I still have her but i do not believe i was ready for her when i got her. I finally feel ready now and that is why in less then two weeks i will have a 8 week old basenji puppy. I guess all i am saying is i know what it feels to blame yourself for not giving them what they deserved and i understand the hurt you are going through because that day was the worse day of my life. I am almost 20 now and it still hurts and i have pictures of him up all around my house and always will. Dogs do have a good memory yes but they also tend to live in the moment. Maybe his first few years were hard on him, but the last three years you gave him of peace and happiness probably made up for everything else. I had a three week old kitten i had to put down once because his legs were not developing right.. i still to this day wonder if the vet made the right call putting him to sleep and i was always so angry at him because he did not put him to sleep before he actually put him down therefore the kitten screamed in pain and it broke my heart…. just know we all understand what you are going through and are here for you and are glad you had the courage to share your story with us. It is hard to love an animal because they usually leave this world before we do, but we have to believe that they know how much we love them and leave this world knowing that.

RE: Need help naming my puppy
No human names. The only name i kind of like for her is Nismo. I was looking at African names but i could not find anything that was simple enough, i do not want it long. I just want something short and sweet.
