  • 14 yrs old peeing
    H Henna420

Hi we have an 14 yr old female who is getting to the point where she can't hold her pee…she is peeing un-announced...on her bed...on furniture....

What can we do if anything?

We let her often...even after she relieves herself outside...she will do it again right after coming in

    Advice please

  • Poop eating
    H Henna420

Hi. I have five year old male basenji. All of sudden he stated eating his own poop. I try to clean the yard as often as I can but the minute I let him out he goes searching.

    1. What could be the reason?
    2. What r the risks?
    3. How to stop this behaviour ?

    Thanks in advance

  • Expensive Distructive Behaviour
    H Henna420

Well, i have crate for each one of them in one room and they sleep/rest in their. The crates are never closed….i guess its time to buy blankets or towels in bulk and see what happens.

they dont get to sleep with cause the 12yr old female gets very possessive and pees and also insists on my wife not sleeping in the same bed....lol

Ok everyone i need help. My 4yr old Basenji cant get enough of ripping/destroying his bedding. I always wash them, spray them and even roll around on them to put my scent on them….and nothing helps. One night on them and its gone. He will rip them shreds. Its not only annoying but expensive.

Both basenjis get lot of play, activity and excercise.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

Hi. My 12 yr old female used to let me clean her teeth regularly but that has changed n the last year. She needs a professional cleaning BUT im really concerned about Anesthesia Risks at this age.

    Any suggestions and/or opinions???

    Thanks in advance

  • Green and/or Fruit smoothies???
    H Henna420

Hi all. My both Basenjis have on RAW DIET for over a year now and they are doing great. We actually swear by it cause of the amazing change we have noticed in our 12yr and 3yr old.

My wife and I recently purchased the best blender ever…VITAMIX and has changed our lives...green smoothies...fruits smoothies...fruit & veg icecream....fruit & veg soups. Boy do we feel great.

But thats not what my post is about :) We were thinking if it has made that much difference to us then WHY NOT FRUIT AND/OR GREEN SMOOTHIES FOR OUR BASENJIS.

ANY INPUT AND/OR RECIPES WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED:)

  • Raw food
    H Henna420

Hi. We have an option of buying either 10lb bulk or 50lb. You do save a little bit of $ money buying 50lb but we dont have a seperate freezer either. We have two Bs and it cost us $60/month….thats not bad at all. Not worried about the bones...they are crushed with meat and the veggies.
And it doesnt take much time...we have 1lb bricks. We leave one in the fridge overnight to thaw...and just feed them in the morning:)

We have noticed a great difference in our babies since switching to raw food

  • Watery eyes
    H Henna420

Hi 11yr old and 3yr old basenjis have right eyes watering. Its started happening about 2 weeks ago for the 11yr old one but 3 days ago for the younger one. Any ideas? Im taking them in to see the vet on friday but wanted to gather some info here first.

  • Hello! From White Rock BC!
    H Henna420

Hi. As someone mentioned, lot of breeders place their show dogs after few years. We flew in one from PEI last summer. He is a wonderful, well behaved and socialized basenji. It literally took him a day to get used to us. We love him. So, that is another option. We have two, male and female, do take them to white rock beach often.

  • Water intake
    H Henna420

my 11yr and 3yr used to drink water like there is no tomorrow. i couldnt keep up refiling their filter water unit enough. however, i just switched to strictly raw food diet a week ago and i have noticed the one fill of the units is enough for the day.

I switched my basenjis to Chicken-veggies-bones raw food that i got from a local meat shop. They claim it has 20% veggies. My B's are just LOVING it. I havent started raw and cooked vegPetables or biscuits yet but do add pumpkin superblend and omega 3 oils to it. I have noticed that they both used to drink A LOT of water before it but now their water intake has gone down a lot. I was told that is a good thing.

Which vegetables and biscuits are good to add to their diet?

Also my 11yr old female and 3yr old male both weight 25lb and it was suggested i feed them no more than 1/2lb (1/4 in the morning and 1/4 at night) per day. Is that correct?

I was also told to switch to Omega 3 oils for humans rather than buying one for dogs?

I love my babies and want nothing but the best for them…sooo...whatever it takes i will do...any other suggestions for their diet are much appreciated.

  • Furminator
    H Henna420

I cant thankyou guys enough. I have tried a lot of different things for my two basenjis when it comes to dead hair. Especially my 11 yr female. She loves to just hold on to the dull hair. I have tried zoom and other brushes but were never really fully satisfied. I read this thread this afternoon after ordering a Stripping Knife on-line. And went straight to Petsmart to pick up the furminator….it is AMAZING !!! I must have taken off enough to make two other dogs :-)

Im now a believer....recommend this to any dog lover...once again thankyou for this thread....great job

  • Raw food
    H Henna420

hi there…i have been wondering about switching my 11 yr and 3 yr old b's to raw food diet. There is a local place that makes blocks of raw foods of different types...chicken, beef, etc. I have talked to a couple of breeders that use that place and swear by it. They said to make sure to add more veggies.....yogurt...rice and protein ( sardines) to the diet along with the raw food.

whats your response to this topic. Any experiences. Pros and cons.

    Thanks in advance.

side note: i have been feeding my basenjis Wild salmon by Call of the wild 1/2 cup at night and frozen Venison raw food by Nature's Valley INSTINCT in the morning. I did notice a great difference in my 11yr old. She looked more alert and energized just two weeks after starting.

  • Help
    H Henna420

Hi all. I have a 3 yrs old B&W male basenji. I have noticed that (for the last month) he appears to be catching invisible flies. Does that make sense? He will just set there and try to catch something in the air. Sometimes, he will chase something thats not there. He looks cute and funny doing it BUT im getting concerned.
Has anyone else witnessed it? Is it normal?

  • Puppy Food
    H Henna420

Hi. I have just recently brought in a new member named BEAU (3yrs old M) to our family. He is still on Eukanuba (small breed) Puppy Formula Food. I was told by the breeder that he has a very soft stomach. And warned me not switch him to anything else for he will get the runs.

Im not expert but i dont think keeping him on puppy formula can be very healthy for him in the long run.

    Any advice?

PS…my 10 yrs old F, who has her share of food allergy, is non Wild Salmon by Taste of the wild and doing great. A month ago i started mixing Prairie Venison as well...and...planing on introducing Instinct Vension Raw as well.
