My basenji George passed away at 20 years old in Feb 2018. I still look at the forums just to see basenji pictures so Thank you for the wonderful pictures. I look back now after 2 and a half years of losing "Curious George" and think how lucky I was to have him. We found him- tailed chopped off but he looked alot like Jengo...George had more white on his face although.
you will always remember those memories with Jengo - like someone said , a tired basenji is a good basenji - that definitely was George. Brings a smile to my face.
So sorry for your loss.......another basenji will not replace George or your Jengo. Cherish those memories. I have other rescue animals but no one stole my heart like my Curious George.

RE: Remembering Jengo...
I LOVE your pictures.......especially the one of him running. George used to chase semi's - big trucks on Highway 19 in Huntsville TX. He would just jump the fence and run and run....amazing he did reach 20 years old but I can tell you the memories he has given us.
You will look back and Thank God you had a basenji.......... to have another one....I do not know, no one could be like my George but all the stories are very similar.
Thank you for sharing your Jengo with us.....I enjoy looking at the pictures and the wonderful stories.

RE: Looking for an adult basenji in need of a home in TX
Make sure your basenji gets along with the new one. My basenji George did not always get along with other dogs and especially other basenjis. We found George and his "wife" and their puppies. We found homes for most of them but kept two of the puppies and the dad, George. The two puppies and the dad did fight on occasion and it was not a good time. We ended up giving up the puppies , who were with us for a couple of years since they killed one of our cats and another of our dogs.
I LOVED my basenji George, my love of my life dog, what a personality but I would not have more than one. Maybe the females are better behaved than the males as George and the one of the puppies were male. Did not get along. Your Vinny looks a lot like my George. George passed away on Feb 14 2018 at the age of around 20 years old. We found him in 1999 and he died in 2018.
My husband and I say he is the one dog we will have the best stories on as we grow old. We rescue animals so he was one of many dogs. He certainly stole my heart- I miss him so much.
Good luck in your search

My George lived to be 20 years old, my handsome boy . I am trying to upload a picture of him but not having any luck being somewhat "computer challenged" .
Basenji's are a breed to research before you take one home.
We rescue dogs and cats and turtles etc but not one animal was the trouble and surprise my basenji, George was.
He was named after Curious George as most basenji owners know how curious this breed are. He was a hand full but after maybe 5years he stole my heart and I miss him so much. My pal and buddy.
I always told myself if I could just have him until old age I would be happy (God knows he chased trucks, cars, pit bulls- it is a wonder he did not leave me sooner)
George was rescued in August of 1999 , with his litter of puppies and a "wife". we had George until Feb.14 2018. We figured he was at least one year old when we found him.
Much love and hugs to all those basenji's out there- they are a real loyal breed with a great personality if you can handle all the other challenging traits they have.
