Nicole destroys the sofa… again
Good thing I didn't buy a new one yet, but tried to cover the damage with a white sheet before…
Welcome home daddy!

Nicole made her own stuffed toy..
.. by emptying the stuffing of my sofa all over the floor and hiding all her other toys (which she stole out of her toybox) inside the newly created space in the sofa. She sat ever so proudly enjoying her creation when I walked in, and when I yelled at her I got something of a jokey groal back, telling me that "I can make sounds too, but you got to see the humour in this", and then she just jumped around wanting to play, her tail wagging ever so much!
I guess that's what you get for leaving her alone in the living room for a couple of hours while working on the computer. She doesn't like not having my attention, which she proved again in the evening by destroying a CD case in a million small sharp pieces. She clearly doesn't approve of the increased amount of work I have at the moment

RE: More pictures :o)
In Helsinki there's an isle just for dogs, and Nicole loves it!
Have you guys seen a swimming Basenji before?

RE: Top USA Breeders?
Thank you for your replies! Now an entirely different question that I maybe should make a new thread for, but that I feel some of you might still be able to find and answer here:
Do you know of plans to import from Congo in the future and how to get in contact with the right people to take part in such an adventure?

RE: More pictures :o)
She decided that the carpet was way more interesting than walking around, so the judge couldn't really get a real feel of how she moved. All other dogs did one lap around the ring, while the judge asked us to do it four times, and Nicole still didn't really want to follow at all. It was a little embarassing to say the least
We got a pretty good verdict though:
"Beautiful lines. Slightly narrow head. Great expression, fairly big ears. Good neck, equal transient angulations (google translate here). Great top-line, tail and behind. Smooth movement from all sides when she decides to move in a calm fashion. Great color and coat."
The competition was pretty hard since there were 30 other basenji puppy girls competing with her (Basenji owners in Finland are extremely active compared to most other breeds). Better luck next time I guess.

RE: More pictures :o)
She's a very sleek and pretty young lady! I love the look on her face while chasing the lure - so much concentration.
I added a second picture where she looks even more concentrated

More pictures :o)
We were training for a dogshow, and during all our training-sessions she did just fine but at the actual day of the show she decided to act like a complete clown, typical…
This is from one of her better days:
We also decided to give lure coursing a shot and she absolutely loves it, I have to make sure to let her try it out again.
The other day she was also stung by a bee, but she didn't seem to mind at all and acted as if nothing had happened, while I was naturally panicing. Luckily it didn't cause any real trouble… this time.

RE: Why are b's said to be hypoallergenic?
I have problems with all other dogs but Basenjis. At first I got a little alergic at nights (because she claimed my bed) but after a while your body gets used to it and you don't have any issues anymore.

Top USA Breeders?
With the risk of causing some trouble, I'm interested in what the "top" breeders are in USA, and with top I mean a breeder that has several Bs that have done really well in shows, or that have an exceptionally great personality.
Hope this question, nor potential replies will offend anyone…

Nicole is learning how to run
She's not very good at running yet, but she's getting there! First day of spring here in Finland and I haven't seen her happier

RE: Throwing up during the night
Thanks for the concern, she is doing better. I ended up not going to the vet at all after realizing that it was a reaction to treats I'd given her (extremely high quality stuff, but still). It looks like she's very sensitive to new food so I nowadays I just treat her with the same dryfood that she gets during the meals. She can still throw up if she eats too fast though, so I try to control that as good as I can.
She's up for a vet visit in a week anyways so might as well tell them about what's been going on and see what they think, but Nicole is enjoying her food and doing fine now so I really doubt it was anything to be worried about.

RE: More pictures of Nicole
We can't be outside much because it's still so cold up here in Finland, but today we managed to stick our noses outside.

New camera, new pictures
Just a couple of pictures with my new Canon 550D

RE: Nipping / Biting
Thanks I'll try what's been posted here! I just had some success with spraying a little water on her when she bites, but I find that a bit evil and I don't want her to act differently out of being scared.

Nipping / Biting
How do I teach her away from nipping / biting? She just won't stop and believes that everything is a game. If I try to stand up and walk away she follows me and bites my toes, when I try to stop her she bites my hands…
I've tried turning her on the back in a submissive position while looking at her until she calms, but as soon as I let her go she returns to biting even fiercer than before. It's really slowly getting out of hands now
I'm thinking it might be because she has a lot of energy to burn, but since we can't go outside because it's -30C (-22F) and she's only 8 weeks old, I don't really have any means to tire her out.

RE: Nicole is home!
The music is Rage Against the Machine.
Tried to snap a nice pic of the two of us but she just can't sit still even for a moment
