RE: Old UK breeder ?
you got me searching through some old crufts catalogues for the 1950s, and the Andersons were just about the only scottish based exhibitors - could she perhaps just have had dogs from them? The seemed to have moved about quite a bit in the 50s thru north England/Scotland, and back in those days the bred prolifically so there would be lots of basenjis out there.. Will be really interesing to find out who she is and who the dogs were - keep us informed!

RE: Adenocarcinoma cancer
I am really sorry to hear about Red. I am sure lots of us have been in much the same position at one time or another, and what you decide to do is really a very personal choice - only you can decide what is going to make her last few months with you the best they can be.
I lost one of my dobes to stomach cancer a few years back, and i opted NOT to treat with chemo - we simply brought her home and made sure she had the best few months we could possibly give her - then when the time came gave her peace with her family around her. I think given the same set of circumstances i would do the same again. If cure was a possibility then sure consider Chemo, but if its just prolonging the inevitable, then it does need you to think about whats going to be best for Red.best wishes - whatever you decide.

RE: Long talk with Dr. Gonto
A terrific post Debra, thank you for posting this - lots of food for thought for all of us who have basenjis tested as affected/carrier especially.

RE: Hi - newbie alert!
Hi Quizbasenji - welcome from another UK basenji owner.
re your comment about Trindles - that is simply not true. There have been very few brindles born in the UK at all - never mind trindles. sounds as though you bumped into an "instant Expert" who decided to make up a story! I agree colour alone should never be a reason to put down a pup, but i seriously doubt any uk breeder would consider such a thing even if a trindle was produced.

RE: Hunting Dogs of Ancient Egypt - UK show needs your entries!
Theresa - its probably a bit far for us Scots to go for an open show - its held in The Vilage Hall, Baginton, near Coventry on Sunday 17th April.

Hunting Dogs of Ancient Egypt - UK show needs your entries!
I wonder if you could do 'Hunting Dogs' a favour and circulate the
following around your e mail list in order to try and drum up some
entries. The Secretary, Grant Carter tells me that sadly, the entry of Basenjis at
Hunting Dogs is very poor - just five dogs, (one of the judges has just
one
dog.). Judges are Anthony Rees and Celia Mortlock, both with Hound
backgrounds and C list judges in the breed looking for more experience. If somebody has missed the entry date, or somebody who may like to add an
entry, Grant would be more than happy to accept a late entry if it would
boost the numbers for the judges concerned. He says he would need to have them by Thursday 24th at the very latest
and
that he does still have schedules if anybody needs one. Failing all this
people could drop Grant an e mail say they want to enter if they can't
get
it to him by Thursday.Contact details are;
Grant Carter - Hon. Secretary, Hunting Dogs of Ancient Egypt.

-
RE: New pics of Kwame

RE: Crufts, how is it run ???
The entry details for Crufts have just been published - 29 dogs entered, and 32 bitches. No idea how many overseas entries are in this, but hopefully a few will be coming over.

RE: Should have never taught her the paw trick….
Tilly does the same trick. Only she smacks poor old Humphrey dobermann on the head repeatedly if he is (in her opinion) closer to the fire than her - and only stops when he moves…
Good job she wasnt around to try it with some of my previous dobes - we would have had basenji mince...
