Getting off the leash9 Dec 2010, 08:16I know what you mean Patty; but I always made sure to do this and it didn't make any difference. It's not every dog I've had that could do this; most can't but once they figure it out the first time they always seem to do it again.

Getting off the leash5 Dec 2010, 08:48I rarely post on this forum these days but if there is one topic that could get me to do so this is it!
I have had several Basenjis that could do this, with the trigger clip that's pretty much universal these days. How they do it I don't know. Bryn had to gyrate a bit to do it but Ezri just seems to shake herself and it's off. I will never trust trigger clips again (and I have high quality bridle leather leads with heavyweight brass clips, not cheap nylon and nickel ones). All my dogs now wear leads with a buckle fastening such as are made for Greyhounds (mine are Whippet sized). They have their disadvantages; there is no swivel so they twist up, and they are very fiddly to fasten when getting eager Bs out of the car. For this I use their old trigger leads with a safety strap of the sort that come with Haltis, fastened to the lead at one end and clipped to the collar ring the other way around to the main clip, so they can't shake them both off at the same time.

Eesha's new baby brother & sister…23 Mar 2010, 12:33They're nice looking pups.
I'd just like to confirm what the previous posters have said about Fanconi testing. The parents have not been tested, and the sire's litter sister is a carrier.
I did advise this breeder to have her pups tested before they were homed, and gave her all the information to do so, which clearly fell on deaf ears. I abandoned my own breeding plans this spring as my bitch's DNA results had not come in, even though I expected her to be clear as she is from a clear/clear breeding. (and yes, she and her cousin are both clear). Two the same age will be hard work. Try to make sure that they don't become too dependent on each other to relate properly to you.

Kits: time to UK?27 Jan 2010, 15:31If it comes this week, and if it takes 2 weeks for mine, it might just be in time! My own fault, I should have known better than to assume a Basenji would go along with my planning!
-
Kits: time to UK?26 Jan 2010, 16:59Thanks Scott! I'll have to chill while I'm waiting for the swabs and the results; time is not on my side. Trust Basenjis to refuse to go along with one's plans.
Have fun swabbing 9 puppies! -
Kits: time to UK?26 Jan 2010, 16:02For those on this side who have used the swab kit (I have previously sent blood) how long from the order date did they take to arrive? I ordered them last Sunday (17th) and it has now become somewhat urgent.

Crufts 201017 Jan 2010, 15:29I must admit I can happily give the shopping a miss; I don't usually go much outside Hall 5. I don't like all the jostling and crowding.

Crufts 201016 Jan 2010, 17:52Yes, I'm entered; taking the two black 'uns. Thank goodness we aren't first in!

BCGB photos14 Jan 2010, 09:37No, not Sally this time; the person said they had been off work for a week. Mystery deepens!
-
BCGB photos13 Jan 2010, 17:49Thanks Vicki; I don't think the name was Les or May but I could easily be wrong. The rest of the card is very clear, just can't make out the name!

BCGB photos13 Jan 2010, 10:25I received a lovely card yesterday with some photos enclosed of my grand old lady Ruby taken at the BCGB champion's parade. Unfortunately I cannot decipher the signature on the card or the postmark and I was too emotional at the time to remember who was taking photographs. Anyone remember who it was so I can thank them properly?

Judge for the 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship10 Jan 2010, 21:46I have judged a couple of overseas specialties and have found my efficient and helpful stewards to be worth their weight in gold; they always are of course, but with an unfamiliar system and language this is even more true.:)

-
Lka15 Dec 2009, 18:08Thanks all, it was a nice way to round off the year.
-
Lka14 Dec 2009, 16:25Small one; my BW, Ezri, got the Reserve Bitch CC.
I haven't been on here in weeks; travelling for work has been horrific but getting a couple of quieter weeks before Christmas now, thank goodness :).
Hope Basi's move went well!

Welsh Kennel Club - good luck!22 Aug 2009, 06:55Thats a third CC for both of them - but cant claim their title till they get another cc over the age of 12 months - anyone know if thats happened in Basenjis before?
Ch St Erme Jolly Swagman did it; he won his title with his fourth CC at Crufts in 1987. A few years earlier I think Ch Azenda Wenohow was another.. May have been more, but before my time!

What exactly is PK Deficiency?18 Aug 2009, 20:57I think I got the same enquiry. I answered along the lines lvoss has described. (Bryn was DNA tested for this when he was still in the US).
