  • Transport help needed in KY
    alkiteA alkite

    Hi guys,

We are looking for help transporting a B Boy between Paducah, KY and Knoxville TN tomorrow. Short notice? Yes, yes it is!

I am picking him up from another runner from MO and taking him to Paducah, but we are looking for someone to get him to Knoxville. His new mom and dad are going to take him on to Georgia.

Let me know if you can help, thanks everyone for looking!
    :D

  • Baby Gates I don't use them
    alkiteA alkite

We have 1 gate with vertical bars and a step mechanisim to open it. For some reason there is this one patch of carpet that Giz wants to crap on and we just keep him separated from that part of the hallway. He knows how to open the gate, but he isn't heavy enough to actually make the mechanisim work. I'm expecting to come in one day and see him telling the terrier girl to sit on the foot pedal, but he hasn't thought of that yet. I don't mention it out loud, either. :-)

The B I am fostering came with a de-stuffed…um...thing (I really couldn't tell you what it once was). When she doesn't get her way she will BAROOOOOO at us as loud as she can and then grab the stuffy and shake, shake, shake it and throw it in our general direction. If she could say "so there', I know she would.

  • Treat Question
    alkiteA alkite

Hi guys! Long time, no read.

Life here has been busy, busy. The dogs are getting a new patio and a big shiny (ok, it's wood so not so shiny) new privacy fence so they can run, run run. My DH and I are about to drop, drop, drop. :p We do all these "little projects" on our own.

So, to my question. I picked up a couple of treats for the furkids the other day, they are cow bones (about 2.5" long ish) filled with chicken flavored goo. I checked the goo ingredients and it doesn't seem too dangerous (but who knows these days, right?) and the bone is a real sanitized bone, but I was wondering if they would pose any physical dangers like rawhide does.

    Thanks for your input! :D

  • If you were going to add another dog….
    alkiteA alkite

I would love to have another B, we currently have our B Boy and a Terrier Mix girl. I have owned a toy poodle and he was such a sweetheart. I also had a Chow/Blue Healer mix that was a little monster. I wouldn't give that one a go again. My brother in law has a Great Dane and I would love to have one as well, he is just an amazing dog.

I can't imagine Vegas being mean. I AM the expert after spending 15 minutes with him! :D B's are smart, he knew who to be mean to, and from the sounds of things he had good reason.
The best part is, he is loved and happy now. To you know where with the people who treated him badly.

Hugs and happy thoughts for you and Dr. Abbey! She'll be in charge of your physical therapy routine from here on out. :D

"No messes. No destruction. I think they're plotting something."

Now what would give you that idea? :D I had the pleasure of meeting Vegas, Katy and Marley back when we transported the auction pups, and I am just positive you have your hands full! I didn't know which cutie to pet first, but Vegas straightened me out pretty quickly! :D
    Good luck!

That is a whole lot of cute on one table :D

  • Blue Buffalo dog food, so does anyone know who manufacturers it?…
    alkiteA alkite

Neither of my dogs will touch a raw carrot with a 10 foot pole, but they both will scarf down frozen veggies. When I am making supper we run through some training drills and Giz will definitely respond quicker for a frozen veggie than a meat treat. :D
We've recently switched foods (we feed dry) and when the recall happened, I was ready to switch again. DH was the voice of reason and said I really needed to be a little less rentitive about the whole food thing.

citrus juice is also a good sticky remedy. I hope Chase is a little less gooey today! :D

  • My B would rather Arf than Baroo
    alkiteA alkite

Giz has growled at people while on leash, but does not when he is off leash (at home, don't want anyone to think I just let him roam :D). I think he is much more defensive of his space when he is confined by the lead and he is much more protective of me during that time as well. I think if someone would attack me at home he would just hide behind the couch.

  • Late night ROOOO
    alkiteA alkite

Our dogs sleep downstairs so it never crossed my mind that Giz was still asleep when he occasionally wakes us up. It is the most unearthly howl I have ever heard. We watched Ghost Hunters last night and between that and the midnight RRRRROOOOOOOO my son was a little creeped out. :D.

Ok, maybe I was too. It's just erie to wake up to that noise.

  • Welcome home Chevy!

How sweet! She is just beautiful. I may have a slight favoritism for Tri's, though.
The look on Chase's face says it all. "I need a nap!" :D

  • Call him Mr. Snarky
    alkiteA alkite

Hmm, I hadn't thought about something like that. The house across the street from us sold and we have new neighbors. I wonder if it is him being sensitive to them being there. The house has been empty since Giz game to live with us.

Wow, that hadn't occoured to me at all. hmmmm….

  • Call him Mr. Snarky
    alkiteA alkite

Great tip! I will do that. Our vet used to own a Baseji, so he is pretty good to follow up on "unusual" requests, but I'm still not convinced he knows much about the breed. He is really better with large animals and does a lot of farm work in our rural community. If things progress with Giz and I don't find an answer with him, I will go to a different vet. I figure if it is going to show on a blood test, then we can distinguish that with this vet but I won't wait around if we don't get a resolution! :D
Thanks again for the advice, I'd end up having a "duh" moment, so now I feel prepared to call. Watch out vet's office.

  • Call him Mr. Snarky
    alkiteA alkite

I believe it was just a T4, I will call and confirm that with the vet. I doubt they would have the facilities to do a full thyroid and there wasn't time for the test to have been sent away, so I'll request that. Thanks for the suggestion, Andrea.
His teeth are good, the vet checked them and I checked at home. I've manually manipulated every inch of that poor dog at this point. Poor Giz.

  • Call him Mr. Snarky
    alkiteA alkite

I'm not sure what is up with Giz. He's gotten snarky over the last few weeks. Maybe not exactly Snarky, but very verbal. When the house settles or the TV pops he growls. He will wake up and just start growling. We haven't had any previous issues with him waking badly when he is with us. On rare occasion, he will wake up in the middle of the night and howl like a tornado siren, but just to jostle him around on the couch he has never grumped.
I've checked all over for tenderness or anything that I could find abnormal with no results, other than him looking at me like I am seriously offending his sensibilities. He had a vet check yesterday, everything is fine they just called and said his thyroid was fine and no abnormal levels in his bloodwork. We checked his urine for sugar spillage twice to be sure it wasn't a false negative.
He just turned 4, so I don't know if it is just a little bit of a personality change or if I am just blowing the whole thing out of proportion.
I appreciate any suggestions I can get. :o

  • Let me in or I'll poop
    alkiteA alkite

It is available at pet stores and is a chewing deterrent formulated for pets so it is nasty but non-toxic. I've heard of some dogs that aren't phased by it, but my B gives me dirty looks when I open the cabinet the bitter apple is in :D
