@mikesull He's only 8 weeks old...he is really young to be away from his pack. Now, you are his pack and he wants to be with you. Can you take him with you when you go to the bathroom and to your home gym for example? Remember he had brothers and sisters with him ALL the time...and now he panics when he finds himself alone. You sound really frustrated...I am concerned that you are "getting pissed" this early in his adoption and training. He will settle down but it is going to be a difficult process if he senses that you are angry with him every time he calls for you. That's what he is doing, calling for his pack. You are all he's got now. If you feel that this is too much for you, I think everyone here understands that. Basenjis are not for everyone, they are pack animals, but if you find out he is too much trouble for you, I ask that you return him to his breeder or go the Basenji Rescue and Transport site and they will take care of him in foster until he can be adopted. It would be better for you and better for him....and I mean this kindly, not in a "condescending" way.

RE: LF Litter
If you don't have your hearts set on a Basenji puppy, please go to Basenji Rescue and Transport where you can view Basenjis available for adoption. Basenjis are often given up for death of an owner or moving to a non-pet facility. And some are given up because the owner only heard "They don't bark and they don't shed" and did not do the research required to be a Basenji owner. My current Basenji and light of my life, Binti, was given up because she was "vicious" (She did play bows and shook up the corner of the comforter...both activities that owner interpreted as wanting to attack him. Luckily, the foster said "bring Binti right back!" because she knew this guy should not have ANY dog , let alone a Basenji.) All of my Basenjis were rescues and I could not have asked for better dogs, companions and friends.

RE: I need to find a home for my female pb basenji
@debradownsouth I think kindness is in order for anyone looking to responsibly rehome their Basenji. None of us are in any position to assign motives to someone we don't know. We want to keep this forum accepting of all Basenji owners and people will stop coming if they get a lecture on how to live their lives from the forum members. I am sure you did not realize in your zeal to protect this basenji that your comments were fairly critical. I know you were only trying to help, but I'll bet this lady is broken hearted to have to give up her Basenji-we should choose kind words until we know differently.

RE: Screaming must stop!
@mikesull I'm SO glad things are going better! Rergarding the crate...our Binti despised her crate UNTIL i randomly threw a high quality treat in there when she wasn't looking. She started to think that this crate was giving her treats...I knew we had succeeded when she started to nap in her crate (door open). She is not destructive at all...she has lots of toys around and lately she likes tearing up delivery boxes (emptied, of course.) She isn't allowed to do that unless I am home (and I just read that Amazon boxes are treated with insecticide at the warehouse, so she NEVER gets those.) I also believe that free feeding is not good for Basenjis when they are no longer with their brothers and sisters...when they are old enough to be adopted, they need to regard you as the pack leader who supplies them with everything (which is a good idea why you eat first, like the leader does in the wild.) I feed Binti breakfast and dinner and she gets four crunchy treats for "lunch". This helps me control her weight and she has no eating problems because she knows when meals are coming. I can't wait to see pictures of your new best frie nd!!! This is Binti sun sponging in her bed by the pation doors.

RE: Is she a basenji ?
@mrscastro Don't worry about typos OR tears. Just about everyone here has lost their beloved canine family member and a piece of their human heart with them. The pain is big because the love is big. Please be comforted by the thought that a sweet soul that God created completely out of love with be waiting for you, and like all my dogs has probably already put in a good word for you with the Lord. Sending love and comfort to you in this difficult time.

RE: Is she a basenji ?
@caaaitlinann She is a BEAUTIFUL girl, Basenji or not. I got started on Basenjis years ago when my husband and I adopted a rescue who was described as a "Shepard/collie mix". She was just a tiny pup. Well as she grew, our vet said, "what you have here is a half Basenji and maybe half Shiba Inu!" She never barked and had a have circle tail like yours and she had ALL the Basenji behaviors. After that whenever we moved to a new state and got a new vet, they ALL said "Half Basenji!" When our dear Goldie passed away at 13 years, we decided to get a full blooded Basenji and the rest is history (History that involves us being servants of various Basenji, that is!). Let us know what your DNA tests say. We love all Basenjis, part Basenjis and even Basenji wannabes here. You adore her and so do we!!!!!

RE: Is she a basenji ?
@morsesa Who made you the Basenji police? It is inappropriate for you to attempt to dictate here of all places what someone else should do. If a dog is half Basenji and half something else, then it is half Basenji. WHATEVER is wrong with an accurate description???? This pup is loved and adored as ALL dogs should be, part Basenji or not!!!! We look after one another here.

RE: A few pink areas plus paw licking: allergies?
Binti, my female, started getting pink tummy and paws with lots of licking. Our wonderful Basenji-saavy vet suspected allergies and prescribed Apoquel. That did the trick. Since it was only her tummy and paws, I suspected she was coming in contact with the offending material when she squatted to pee. Now I wipe her tummy and paws off when she comes in, and she has come to love the extra grooming. Especially since I give her a little paw massage with each foot. No recurrences since...fingers and paws crossed.
