I agree jazzy's mom when people say he is to harsh I'm just like whaaaaaat??? His formula also says 50% exercise 25% discipline and 25% affection. I think the guy is awesome, I have had so many great results with my basenji and his training methods.

I totally agree with Jazzysmom and vstripe here. I think Cesar is absolutely amazing and I adore him.

Has anyone seen the tv show Supernanny? Each show focuses on a family whose kids are out of control and completely disrespect their parents. Bribing the kids with candy and toys (becoming a treat dispenser) may garner temporary obedience but it does not teach a child respect. Supernanny Jo goes in and observes then she teaches the parents how to gain control over their children. When a kid is throwing a tantrum or whatever, it has to sit in the "naughty chair" or a "naughty spot" until it calms down. No one hits the kids or yells at them but if they move the parents pick them up and put them back in the "naughty chair". The parents calm energy and body language teaches the child that the parent is in control. It doesn't take long for the child's behavior to improve. Once the children understand who is in charge, then their behavior can further be improved using positve reinforcement.

Cesar does pretty much the same thing with out of control dogs. He teaches the owners how to gain their dog's respect then once that is established the owner's can follow up with positive reinforcement training.

Basenjis are known for their Houdini-like escapes but I haven't had a problem with escapees in many years, until this summer that is. Twelve year old Logan decided that it was too hot outside and he wanted back inside in the air conditioning so he stared going over the fence in an attempt to find a new way back inside. I had to find a way to thwart this behavior asap.

My porch is about 2 foot up from the ground and has a "fence" of vertical slats that are 3 foot tall. Logan was climbing the corner next to the gate and flopping over. I explored numerous options and I decided that a fence roller was the best deterrent. Professional fence rollers were too expensive so I designed my own D.I.Y. version. I designed, measured, and built the fence roller in just a few hours. It was very easy to do and the total cost was around $50. It can be modified to work with almost any kind of fence.

I decided to make a double roller rather than a single to make sure it would be escape proof. I used metel electric conduit for the inner bar and pvc pipe for the outer roller. When the dog tries to go over the fence the roller spins and the dog is unable to go over it.

I never bother with "diapers" or "panties" for my girls when they are in season. They keep themselves so clean that there is rarely any spotting in the house. If they do spot any, the boys are more than eager to clean the area. :rolleyes:

He's a beautiful dog but I do not see any Basenji in him. His ears are adorable and really give him character.

Do you have any photos of him standing up, a side view?

I forgot to mention that all colors can have blackish towards the tips at times. The hair gets "crumbly" and can be rubbed off. I do not know why this happens to some dogs but I think it may have to do with indoor dryness.

Great news on the health results.

Shadow's inside ears are black/black-Johnny's are not. Could this be an indication?? Johnny's are black on the top part, going down to pinkish/grey on the bottom canal. Anyone else notice anything on their black dogs' ears?

I don't think it is conclusive about his genetic color. Reds and tris are usually pinkish on the inside, blacks are usually dark inside though I have seen some with both black and pinkish inside. Brindles can have specks inside the ears.
