Our mother and daughter used to whimper in their crates when we went to the vet. Eventually they got over it to the point that they voluntarily enter their crates for their trips. We make sure they can see each other and usually one of us.

We have one Basenji who screams if she is startled, a regular prima donna. She sometimes wakes up at night and howls like a wolf until she is consoled. Her mother is very calm about everything.

Our first basenji, Keino, would sit quietly until an unfortunate mouse would try to pass. They were never successful. Our current pair never looked twice at mice but squirrels set them off.

One trick that worked for our Sheba was to wet a hand and let her lick it. It helped her get over her fear of men.
