Last summer he got a face full of porcupine in the back yard so I think he learned his lesson after that. It wasn't too bad though, just had to remove about 7 quills from his lip/nose and it was pretty easy to do it by hand. Haven't had any problems with him and wild animals since then.

RE: Tenji
Nah he doesn't really bug them too much. He got a bit too close a few times and it would chatter and chase him off a little and he'd back away and give it a little more room. Usually he'll just go up and check them out, stick his butt in the air and try get them to run and play, after awhile he'll realize they aren't interested in playing and he'll move along and investigate something else.

Tenji
It's been quite awhile since i've been on the forums so I thought I should post some newer pictures of Tenji. Don't think he's really grown or changed much since the last time I posted on here….He's still a little runt!
Tenji's "snobby" look
Some black and white
Tenji's spotted something up the road and had to go investigate!

RE: New to the basenji world, need HELP!
If chewing is a huge problem and your basenji is constantly destroying stuff you can try put something like RUB A535, Absorbine jr, HEAT or a similar product on anything you don't want to get chewed to keep them away while you do your puppy classes. They hate the smell of it and if they're dumb enough to actually put their mouth on it they get a horrible bitter taste and will NOT go back to that item again! I had also tried the commercial anti-chews that just had a bitter taste and they were completely useless…infact Tenji even enjoyed licking a few of them.

RE: Any other B do this?
Yep Tenji does it also, I call it his "Mr. T" look though.

RE: BRAT facebook - basenji killed by pitbull
Was it an actual pitbull or is this another dog attack that's just labelled pitbull for dramatic effect? In the last year i've seen several dog attacks that were called pitbull attacks even though it was a completely different breed…one of the "pitbull" attacks was actually 3 huskies! Either way it's never a good thing to see and hopefully the owners take responsibility, a few months ago a small dog was killed in an off-leash dog park here and the owner tried to deny any responsibility for it.

RE: Snoring :)
Tenji snores fairly often and usually quite loud….he also digs and claws at his blankets or pillow when he's in a deep sleep

Tenji new pics
Well i haven't put any pics of Tenji in awhile so here's a couple i took over the last few weeks.
He couldn't wait until morning to investigate the first snowfall!
And was more than happy to go back to sleep once he was done investigating.
We also had a very colorful sunset a few weeks ago!

RE: Where does your basenji sleep?
Tenji does the same thing, he only sleeps on my bed when he's good…or i'm cold...so it's kind of like a treat i guess. When he does sleep on my bed he sleeps ontop of my blankets but under his own, and he will not sleep unless he's pushed up as close to you as possible...usually he'll put his back to my side and then dig his legs into the blankets and push as hard as he can, which gets annoying. He likes having his head covered, and his favorite sleeping position is with his head jammed into your armpit lol

RE: Spinning
Tenji does that spin too…usually when he's playing with bigger dogs and needs to get away...he'll usually shift his weight onto one paw and then pivot on it and spin under the bigger dogs.

RE: Finally!!!
Hi KMac, I live in NW Ontario and last Feb. i got my first Basenji, after a long Ontario breeder search i couldn't find any that i really liked…they either weren't very knowledgable, willing to help/provide information or just wouldn't respond to emails/phone calls...ect. I decided to go with Beaubri Basenjis in P.E.I. http://www.beaubri.com/. Simone helped me alot in deciding if a Basenji was best for me and provided me with alot of valuable information and i would highly recommend them. She usually breeds her dogs in mid-late fall with the puppies ready to go home around Feb/March, so if you're interested it'd be best to talk to her as soon as possible as her puppies are usually spoken for well in advance.

RE: Basenji Treats
Yeah that's what i thought….i thought it'd be kind of weird to have to boil them first.

Basenji Treats
I have a question about giving Basenjis certain "treats" from the butcher…they gave us some scraps for the dogs (leg bones and rib bones with some meat left on them) and they said it'd be best to boil them first but is it necessary or can the dogs have them completely raw?

RE: Basenji on a farm
I live on a "farm" and although Tenji isn't allowed to run free in the yard (too close to the highway and no fence) he is allowed to run free in the fields behind our house, we always see rabbits, deer, gophers, skunks and all sorts of critters and Tenji hasn't chased or even given notice to any of them yet, he has never been around horses or cows or anything though so i'm not sure how he'd react to that. He also doesn't go very far from us..usually no more than 50ft. I guess it depends on your basenji and what kind of environment they're in.
