So sorry to hear this news on Sonny, but you know dogs are so adaptable like most animals. Once you have come to terms with it all I'm sure you'll go from strength to strength.
Just for the record I'm sure one day this diesease will be eradicated. Here in the UK we eye test our Dobes for PHPV, so we can now breed clear to clear and slowly but surely the problem is under control, but it all takes time.
Big hugs to you and Sonny…....Cooper sends Barooooooooooos !!!!!:)
If it stands still long enough Cooper licks it !!!! come to think of it, whatever it is doesn't have to stand still at all !!!! lol.
He is my Dobes personal hair dryer, they mustn't be wet !!!!! He helps get the washing out of the machine whether it's clean or not, runs off with it 2 find a place in the sun and have a good lick lol. He is, as I type this licking the screen of the Laptop and trying to catch the cursor !!!
You are not alone !!!!!:)
I'm a relative newbie in the Breed with my Cooper only being 3 years old.
My main Breed is Dobes, and although they will always be my first love I needed to downsize. I'd always admired the Basenji, such a proud looking breed and so striking ( nothing like watching a lovely line up of them in their prime !!! ). I did my research, watched and waited for the right time and the right litter. There are a few Dobe people in the UK that have gone into Basenjis', the Breeder I went to being one of them.
It's been a steep learning curve, but enjoyable. I don't do lap dogs, I like a thinker !!! Cooper is my constant source of entertainment with his antics and a pain in the rear when he's having an off day lol !!!!! Wouldn't have it any other way.
If ACD stands for Australian Cattle Dog then they are on the Friday ( 2nd day ), which is Working and Pastoral Breeds.
You will have a lovely time, lots to buy and see, but like Moetmum says do wear comfortable shoes coz you'll walk miles !!!! also take a drink with you, it's gets very very crowded on the Sat and Sun, the Fri should be quieter.
We have had a very stressful and upsetting few weeks.
My eldest girl Dobe Jovi nearly died from bloat, and has had to have her spleen removed and stomach stitched to the side wall. Her and Cooper usually have an understanding that she growls he runs !!!!, as she is def the alpha bitch ( after me that is !!! ).
However she has proved us all wrong and survived, after spending 2 days in the vets she came home. She curled up on her fav sofa. Cooper came creeping into the room, normally he wouldn't even get up on the same sofa, slowly but surely he crawled up onto it and edged his way over to Jovi, she looked at him as if to say OK you can stay, he then sat right up next to her just watching, as if he was taking care of her. Once she had gone to sleep and he was happy she was Ok, he then came over and sat with me, could sense that I was worried sick. Now Jovi is well on the mend, he knows he has done his bit. What a special, special boy.
As the others have said, means they are carrying the tri-colour gene. Cooper had a few on his tail when he was a pup, has since lost them. He has R/W parents but he has a litter brother and sister who are tri- colour. I find the colour genetics fasinating in all breeds.
It is not considered a fault in the UK.
OH stands for Other Half lol !!!! in short my husband, please note that he is not called the Better Half lol !!!!!!
Patty, I got my pattern off e-bay, it's a old one in old money lol !!!! It fits Cooper really snug, but I'm going to try and knit another one slightly longer. This time it might have to be a purple one lol !!!!!!!
I've just finished knitting Cooper a jumper. The OH said it should have been a strait jacket ( no idea why !!!! lol ).
Coop is alright in his as long as they don't have any buckles or belts on them, and I'd rather spend a pound on a ball of wool then alot more on a shop bought coat, although he does have a heavy duty raincoat that is worn on his walks under supervision lol !!!!!
I was going to knit him one in day-glo pink but thought it might give him a bit of a complex !!!!!!!!
Scott - No you haven't seen Tico ( shame I had her in the car at BCGB the other week !!! and Mum !!! ). Being a bit of a techno phobe haven't managed to upload photos on 2 this forum, but you can check out my facebook page, have put up some recent ones that where taken at Richmond last month.
Hope you are on the mend by the way xxx
