At what age can the fancolni test be done? Also at what age should the hip, eye and thyroid be done?

RE: "Catching" food.
Basenji Catching or fetching, I would not believe it. Our first B (female) wouldn't fetch anything. This past weekend my son said he has his B (male)catching a ball and he actually brings it back. So I bought Zeus a ball and with in two days he was bring it back to us. Today he actually did catch it. He loves to play with it he even just start playing with it by himself.

RE: Chewing nails
Yes my first B Zillah chewed her nails all the time I guess it was because she hated me trimming them, she preferred to do it herself.

RE: HELP!! Does Jack Need to go to the Em. Vet?!!!
My female woke up like this Saturday morning. Bumps on her back and then around her eyes. Saturday Vets office is closed so I went to pet smart and purchased Derm Care with aloe and lanolin its a spray. That helped for about 2 hours and then have to apply again. Gave her a 1/2 child Benadryl when we when to bed and the other 1/2 in the night. This morning the bump around her eyes and on her back have gone down and now her tummy looks worse than Jacks. I really don't know what has caused this. I have 2 B's but only one is affected. This happen to my son's B this past summer we thought he had been stung by a bee. isZi has been miserable but the spray has helped. I will take her to the vet Monday if she's not better.

RE: Car Travel
I use a car harness with My isZi because if I don't she wants to sit on my shoulders and it makes it very hard to drive. I have no idea why she wants on my shoulders even if I'm sitting at the desk on the computer she thinks she has to be on my shoulders. I guess because her ancestor's were carried that way?

RE: Basenji Escape Prevention
I was wondering why you should not use electric collars with basenjis I have because our neighbors have chickens and they often let them out so my B's were stating to try to dig under our fence I used the electric collars to teach them not to dig and it has worked for me it has worked so well that now I just do the warning buzz and they stop. Also there is a basenji in my home town, his owners have the under ground fence and they say it has worked great for there Basenji I was quite surprised to see this.

RE: A basenji in a catalog!
Yes I seen this Catalog it's been in there for a while. I also was very supprised to see a basenji in a catalog. The steps I have them I got them when my first basenji was getting old and having a hard time getting up on the bed. It took here about two days to learn how to use them and then she use them until she passed away. It made her like a lot better to be able to get on the bed without falling. Her sight and hearing also was getting bad. But we did what we could to make her last years easier for her and we miss her. Now we have Two new b's and they love to run up and down the steps but they don't need them but the steps were great when they were small puppies.

RE: Basenji at Work
I was so surprised to see a basenji at Pet Smart. We spoke with you we were the ones with the male brindle basenji. That is so cool that you get to bring him to work with you, your so lucky he is a very nice black and white. I have two basenjis myself. The one we had with us when you seen us at Pet Smart on Saturday is my son's so that would be my grandbasenji. We have had basenjis for the last sixteen years. Hope to see you and Copper again.

RE: Walks and car trips
My B Quinn is a little stinker. But he is at his worst if I take him with me while running around town. Everytime I stop to get out of the car he pushes his way to the door and tries to get out first. The best thing I have tried is a doggy seat belt but if left connected while I am out he chews the seat belt to shredds. I have tried a lot of things but as up for any suggestions. Also while taking a walk he goes crazy for cars passing by and if we pass a person he thinks everyone wants to pet him. For a little guy he sure is stong. I have gone from a regular collar to a harness to an antipull harness (which so far is the best)But he still pulls really hard. A friend suggested one of the spiked collars. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My female wants to also be a little crazy when a car goes by so I started stopping when a car is coming and I tell her to leave it and if she is good and stand still then I praise her. She is getting a lot better at this now as a car goes by we keep walking and I say leave it and them praise her after it passes. My last female was the same way I don't know if this is a female thing or what but my male is very good when cars go by.
I have never been brave enough to leave my b's in my car to run into a store or anything I would be afraid I would return to a shredded car!

RE: 2Bs vs 1B - How Much Different w/Multiples
Sharron,
My basenjis came from a family in Owosso Michigan. She is not really a breeder this was her first litter (not sure if she will have anymore puppies she just had her male fixed. She had a litter of five I took two and my son took one so she felt very lucky because that only left two. Although she didn't have any problem getting homes for them Basenjis are hard to find in Michigan.
