Thanks for the feedback and i will start applying it immediately. I think though that it will undoubtedly take time for her to get accustomed to regarding me in this light. So, in the meantime if she does steal something like lets say undergarments, and I see her chewing it up what i should do is just express as far as possible a field of confidence and just come up to her and take it even if she starts to aggressively grows and snap? What if she actually does bite me though… like breaking through skin... because that would be unacceptable and I wouldn't know what to do and probably back off...

Bassenji agression?
Hello guys.
My basenji lucky is about 1.5 years old and for the past few months or so, we have been seeing very alarming behavior in her. She is quite a great loving gentle dog most of the time but she is quite misbehaved. She loves to steal stuff like food off the table, clothes, personal stuff. We punish her after we see her stealing and take it away. I must also mention that she listens mostly only to my dad because he was much stricter with her from the begging in punishment. So, past few months, whats been happening is after she steal something, I come up to her, in a serious loud tone say no, bad dog, and stuff like that. Than i sit down next to her and when a few months ago, i could just pull the object from her mouth, now she start growling. I know that you arnt supposed to show weakness and back off but if i start reaching for her mouth, she growls louder and starts snapping. She gets this very scary scowl and its obvious that if I come closer at that moment, she will bite me for real. This is the same for me, my sister, and mom but when my dad comes over, she goes onto her back, raises her paws up in submission and lets go. I am very scared about what this is turning into so please help me out with some advice! -
Puppy nibling problem
Is it OK for puppy's when they get exited to start nipping at peoples hands? Is this normal or aggression? Any suggestions on stopping this or punishing it?

Teaching your basenji puppy the rules
so i am noticing that basenji puppy's are not very good at following the set rules. I'm not even sure if she knows what she can or cannot do. I of course know that physical punishment is prohibited and i have been trying to correct behaviors with loud and strict commands like off, no, " fu" which in Russian is the same as drop it, and leave it. When she gets on the couch for example i will loudly and very strictly say off and take her off the couch. However, in a few seconds she will get on again. Please help me and give suggestions.

RE: Lucky and her crate –--- problem...
I would do that but the rooms in my house that she is staying in are archways and only the bedrooms and bathrooms have doors. However, she likes her create! that's whats confusing. She will go in, lay down, sleep, chew a bone, and sometimes when we leave she is quite. Its only at night when we let her out for her last potty break at 12:30 and in the morning for her first at 5:00

RE: New to forum and dog ownership
thank you all for the support. Her breeder is eldarado basenjis in MA, and so far were not sure if we can eve go outside in the back yard with her first of all because of all the snow and second because she hasn't finished all her vaccinations. We were told to wait with the great outdoors so our breeder recommended a litter box. That is what we are using. She potty's their most of the time especially when we catch her sniffing and circling and bring her over their. However, we cant get her to poop their. Plz help. Btw, we have had her for 2 days now.

Lucky and her crate –--- problem...
I have had lucky for 2 days now and she has a good relationship with her crate when it is both open and closed. However, this is only when someone is near. As soon as me or my sister leave, she starts making lots of noise and trying to get out. Any suggestions?

Is it OK for a 3 month old B to constantly scratch at her first collar ever after having it for about 2 days? Also, she tries to chew on her leather leash once in a while.

I picked up Lucky yesterday from the breeder and it said that she had her first shots done. Their was a storm so we didn't go outside but today, I decided to take a tiny walk with her. Is this safe? can i do this? Does it matter if not all of her shots have been done? Please help me out!

New, 3 month B with floppy ears - is this ok?
Hello all! I picked up 3 month old Lucky, yesterday, from the breeder and I love her! She is adorable, smart, cute, friendly, and amazing. Although their was whining when we left her in the crate for a bit and when we put her collar on, their were no other problems. oh, ya, and she had some accidents. The breeder told us that her dad just came from Africa and that that is rare and good. However, her ears are floppy and don't stand up. Her tail is also not extremely tightly curled. Is this OK? Is it normal and safe? Does it mean she has some birth defect? I will still love her no matter what but I am just interested.

New to forum and dog ownership
Hello! I am soon to become ( Jan 16), a proud owner of my first Basenji! She will also be my first dog ever! I am over the top exited but also nervous. I did lots and lots of research on both Basenjis, and owning a dog but am still a bit unsure what to expect in those first few days/weeks. I just finished ordering everything and I must say that I got a lot of stuff!
Just want to hear your guys thoughts on what to expect, some suggestions and stuff like that.
thanks, soon to be your fellow B lover
p.s.
When we pick her up from the breeder, she will be a 10 week old female puppy named Lucky.
