I know it may not be my place to say anything here but some people see pet stores as their only choice. Some breeders are extremely picky about who they place their puppies with and some just never even respond. I contacted so many breeders and brat in my search for a b. I never heard anything back from brat and I only heard back from two b breeders, if its impossible to get one from a responsible breeder what do these people do? Unfortunately turn to pet stores that sell puppies.

RE: Kayla
Yeah I worried about that until she curled up and fell asleep in it. I think we got a calm one, except in the crate.

Kayla
Here is a couple pictures of the new girl. I bought her a big doggy bag today so she will now (until she gets big) be my little shopping buddy.

RE: Freaking Out
Thanks for the suggestions. Last night we worked on kennel time, we had a bit of a messy accident. We did let her sleep with us, and it is a amazing how much room a tiny puppy can take up. She is in her kennel right now (I am using the vari one she came in she seems to like it more then the wire one), she has just cried herself to sleep. So I suppose this is progress. I also got her a treat stick which she has learned to use, I am hoping that in her kennel with give her something to do.

Freaking Out
Well we got Kayla yesterday (she is 7 weeks 4 days) and besides the initial fussing which I thought would die down things had been going pretty well. Well as today went on she whined more and more. She just doesn't stop unless she is sleeping. When I put her in crate she screams bloody murder. We live in an apartment complex and screaming all the time wont cut it. I punked out and let her sleep with us last night. I bought her a wire crate but i also have multiple vari kennels I can try if anyone would think that would be better. I knew she wouldn't be silent I just worry that this will never end. I am scared and in tears already. Please help!

RE: Favorite Dog Clothes - It's Chilly
You know how a lot of the clothes have guides that say this size should fit this breed? What breed size should I look for in buying something for the new pup? Its been so bitter cold here I would like to have something for her ahead of time. Any suggestions?

RE: Basenjis: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual by Mary Lou Kenworthy
Great book just read it in under 2 hours. Very easy to read and put a lot of my anxiety to rest. Great stuff on training too, very easy read!!!!!!

RE: American Idol
anyone think the other door thing was as funny as I did? I was laughing so hard..

RE: Pizzles?!?!
I am glad I heard about these before I bought them. I am not sure if this is a treat I could offer, although I am sure dogs love them.

RE: Feet
I guess when I say outside I should clarify I live in an apartment complex so its not like just the backyard its the whole outside world =).

Feet
I know basenjis wash themselves and I have heard they also use thier feet for this task, because of this I am worried about outside dirt and germs being licked. We dont let shoes in our house so once she is in she is fine but when she comes in how should I clean her feet without bathing her, since I know they dont do water and a bath every day is inpractical. Would baby wipes work? Or puppy cleaning wipes? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Lexi's Video Bank
Wonderful, thanks for sharing. It was nice to see longer videos of basenjis online. Youtubes are all so short.

RE: I need help having two problems
Quercus
Could you share some of your communication tactics with us?
Also the gummy part of the pacifier maybe what is of interest. I know i love chewing on gummy stuff, a bad habit yes but it feels good and I am not teething. LOL. I am new to the doggy world here, but if you could find a chewy, think gummy bear texture, toy it may help. Just a thought.

RE: Bad Foods…
The cat is fabulous. Thanks for the list it will come in handy. I had no idea about the onion thing, which is good to know because we use onions in everything.

RE: Bad Foods…
I have heard that the chocolate dogs cant eat is the baking chocolate that like m and ms and stuff are not as bad. I used to shop at this boutiquie dog store that sold dog safe chocolate. It was human edible too, i think it was just coco free.

RE: Bad Foods…
I have heard corn is bad for cats and dogs, but look on any food bag and you see it usually as the first ingredient. Does anyone know of a food that doesnt contain corn?

Bad Foods…
I was reading in another thread about bad foods. Quick question about the hot dog comment. Hot dogs are bad for dogs? Any other random foods that are bad, besides chocolate of course.

RE: Frozen Treat
I have heard for a teething puppy nylabones placed in the freezer are a great reliever.
On a side note my cat loves strawberry yogurt, and strawberry ice cream.

RE: Fruit juice
When we were in college we had some guys down the street from us who would let their dogs get drunk. I never saw it with my own eyes but I think I am glad I didnt. I guess I would think that givening to much juice would mess up their sugar levels. But I am not an expert here.
