Thank you. Maybe I will give that kibble a try. Bella also eats some of our leftovers but she is underweight at 18lbs. Trying to get a steady diet to get a little weight on her. Our vet says she’s healthy but all the people who are familiar with the basenji breed call her a mini basenji which can be frustrating as she is full blooded just the runt of her litter.

Picky Eater
Have any of you with a super picky eater found a good food that your basenji loves?
I have to rotate foods every month or so to keep my 2 year old female basenji eating.

RE: Grains or no grains
@senjisilly thank you! I was unaware of the limited protein percentage for basenjis. I will have to make sure she is getting the right amount. I will have to look into the dehydrated food. So you add a protein every time you serve a meal. Can you give some examples please

@eeeefarm Thank you for the feedback. What do you mean by rehydrated? Do you add liquid to the food when served? Is there any particular brands you like

Grains or no grains
Wondering if I should feed my 11 month old basenji grains, legumes, wheat and soy. We are trying out just right pitons blend and have the option to exclude those. We have tried blue buffalo and instinct but she is not too found of the kibble. We do try to feed a variety of real veggies, meats and fruits some nights but kibble is more convenient in the mornings.

@tanza
Her registered name is Young’s Bella (my husbands choice… I would’ve been a little more authentic). I’ll have to find her pedigree to get her sire and dam -

New Basenji in Athens, Georgia. Bella is our 6 month old basenji from Lee in Asheville North Carolina. She has the best personality and so far had learned sit, lay down and shake. She is house trained but will occasionally pee in the crate when crated more than 3 hours. If she’s in the bed she’ll sleep through the night She’s 16.5 pounds and 15” at the withers.
