Maybe walk with some extra delicious treats in your pocket. I had a really nasty dog in the yard behind me one time, and if any of us went outside, he would start barking and charging the wood fence. My dogs would get agitated and run over to try to attack back, but I started giving them treats every time it happened, so they started coming straight to me when that dog hit the fence.

RE: Basenji or Decker Rat Terrier?
Definitely a Basenji! Although the standard calls for a more square body, there are plenty out there that are longer than ideal. He looks and sounds like a wonderful companion, and I agree that some bozo must have hacked his tail off.

RE: Grain free food
OPEN FARM is a very high quality food, and can only be good for your B, in my opinion. Another one I like is balancediet.com
It's amazing and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to feed it to all four of my big dogs! The guy will never advertise, doesn't do promotion except his own website, but that website tells you everything you need to know. Plus, my dogs like it more than Open Farm. It's not cooked at high temps, and it has no lentils, potatoes or any other filler. -
