Seems to be the problem with Colorado breeders too, and everything in my region...
Need more resources nationwide IMO. I've had my eye open in Wyoming for years but all dogs are a 1000 mile journey to prove my worth to get.

Working on becoming a member, my ability to be on the internet 24/7 has been severely effected by actually owning a Basenji
None of the dogs he does it do display to me any aggression. They sit there as Senji walks up to him, they start sniffing, Senji's mohawk raises and then he growls a tiny growl and then raises up and then both dogs are pissed.
He gets a lot better quickly if they can work it out a little bit. Then Senji acts like the better dog, except his throat bites, I know they are play bites, but nobody likes my dog playing like he's trying to kill their dog.
I live in an extremely dog friendly apartment complex. Senji has plenty of time to meet other dogs and I do feel he's getting better slowly, as I catch him before he goes into a full dominance stance and get him to calm down and just look at the other dog and see he's not threatening him.
Senji is a big Basenji at 27 pounds and he thinks he's alpha a lot.
I'm trying to use positive reinforcement when he's good and just leaving the situation when he's bad. He's starting to learn he only gets the opportunity to go meet other dogs when he stays calm on the way over.
Sadly Senji is not so far
He's got a mini dachshund living with him, they get along pretty good, Moose feels like the little man out when I'm playing tug o war with Senji, but Moose has no actual desire to play tug of war so he's just jealous.
Senji gets a few seconds in to the sniffing process and then snaps into aggression, he is a lot better if they can have that moment and then go play. But not many people let their dog come play after that.
We've got Senji home and things get better by the hour.
Here's a couple more photos
Here's a classy sleeping position…
He's been great with people, less great with dogs a bit bigger than him, he think's hes some sort of bully and pretty unpredictably gets ferocious… Whats your thought on curbing this behavior?
He's possessive of rawhides and pretty snap aggressive with other dogs, I've been trying to get a hold of him quickly and get his attention from the aggressive activity. Any Basenji specific ideas?
SENJI IS HOME!
That's all for now, I will be taking pictures and video a bunch in the first few days I do assume.
GREAT NEWS!!!
The meet and greet went more than awesome, Senji seemed uninterested in the cat once she puffed up once and then she even calmed down around him, this was done in a tiny room at the humane society, so in our home it should be even better.
Senji and Moose bonded instantly, Moose was already trying to get him to play!
The Humane Society was blown away at how awesome it went! I was too!
My old vet lost my records, or the doctor took them home for some reason. I have to wait over the weekend for them to find them and go get Senji once they have my cat's records.
SO, I'm a bit bummed I don't get him this weekend but Senji is definitely on his way to his forever home and you could see how excited he was when we were all hanging out as a family.
I'm more than excited and more than thankful for the support I've received from the community.
Keep an eye out, I love taking pictures of my animals and sharing info I learn.
I might buy a clicker, but I have a quick gentle snap I'm pretty good at when the kitties get into trouble, so I'm gonna try that.
Seems to be, they have a 3-5 day application processing wait period. It's been a pain but i'm hoping they call me tomorrow, I'm just going to bring Moose up there tomorrow.
The humane society wants a meet and greet with Moose the Dachshund and to test to see if Sengi is cat aggressive. He saw Spirit, a blind and deaf kitty, in the lobby the other day and was quite curious, and I know he'll be a bit over zealous when meeting my kitties, but they're used to being the little things in a large world, when I first got them I was also the owner of one ridiculous party house, so they dealt with my friends and random folks all the time, and really just love the attention.
Awesome, I have some very small cats but they have always been brave smart little things. They follow me around when I walk around outside and want to be part of my family, so I think they'll get used to another dog quickly.
Dog Run
That's where he'll be running around in a couple of days I do hope, I took him for his first walk today, still at the humane society, still working on my application but I submitted my landlord's approval note today.
SOOOO Much energy, Its gonna take a week to use up all the energy he's saved up at the shelter. I'm STOKED!
Everything I've seen you say Voodoo leads me to believe we'd be awesome drinking buddies.
I've got a kitty tower I call Kitty corner they lay on all the time, and all the windows have a ledge for them to sit on. They are already accustom to sleeping on both of those so it shouldn't disrupt them much, they already deal with Moose the dachshund chasing them, much slower than a Basenji can admittedly, but they're starting to get a long well. They've only known each other a few months and it gets better daily.
We're all here for one reason, a common love for a breed quite unique. But we've all got lives outside of these dogs (sorta). I currently work at UPS part time over night, I don't have my Basenji yet, but I do think that schedule is good for the first couple weeks of Basenji ownership, lots of time at home and he'll be inside and safe at night while I'm gone.
My hobby/passion/downfall is nerdism to the Nth degree, A web designer/developer, and all around technology nerd.
I also want to investigate a career in counseling, helping people in some way.
So there's a start of an about me, I'd like to hear how everyone else supports their dogs and what they love.
Yeah, that seems like the cat's relationship with the dachshund we have now. I do hope to get the cats to see the dogs as a helpful addition to the family. Trust him, they've made great strides in this with the dachshund, and keeps getting better all the time, I see them give him kitty kisses more and more.
I plan on being an active member of the community and would love to help out as a web designer with any tech questions.
I'd like to think he's more of a quiet happy guy, but I won't know til he comes home hopefully next week.
I am quite worried about the cat situation indeed, but I know my cats well and know that they're amazing smart. I've got places in the house a dog just can't get to so they've got places they can feel safe. and I've got all the patience and stubbornness in the world so I'll be able to stick it through with the dog, letting him know how important the kitties are. I hope they're sleeping on top of him in a couple of months, understanding how awesome he is.
I say people deserve a second chance, and closing your mind out on someone is as evil as their act.
Prolific and a broad statement I know, but sometimes a person doesn't understand the gravity of a situation until someone slaps them in the brain.
Thanks guys, I do agree, the Basenji and me seem like a great pair, and I do hope my cats agree.
