RE: Pedigree dogs exposed
Clearly I haven't got stats on Basenjis in Congo, but my colleague has just come back from Basankusu (where the mentioned recently-imported dogs were found, unless I'm mistaken) and she has several photos of at least three separate packs of 6-8 dogs. Who all look much more like Basenjis than Delta ever does

RE: Running with pup?
Have no particular knowledge for Bs (how's that for a statement on a basenji forum? :p) but I have always run/jogged with my dogs when they were puppies (deerhound/lurcher cross, collie, lab). I start taking them when they're about four months, just to get them used to the idea that when running on leash, they can't sniff everywhere, and we start running properly when they're about five and a half months old. I think the important thing is not to let them run flat out for sustained periods: a trot is OK, however. You jog, they trot. They shouldn't be running at speed for more than short bursts until they're at least 9 months old to a year (depending on the breed, the line, etc.).

RE: Hello
To be honest, I'm not sure that there are any. My boyfriend might have some, I'll have to ask him when he gets back from Kisangani…
In the photos it's impossible to see her lovely neck, though. I'll have to try harder for a profile shot. And maybe some running ones. And some sleeping ones. And, and...

She looks as though she's having a blast: congrats on the excellent first-time performances!

RE: Hello
So, I got photos Taken in the back bit of our office today.
Delta on the pallets, where she likes to sunbathe (if there's sun). She hasn't got a wrinkly face in this one, but she is showing off her "uneven ear position" a treat:
Delta still on the pallets, but wondering if she's got a chance at the out-of-shot lizard on the wall:
A nice head-shot - bringing out her pavement-special genes… There are moments when she looks a bit like a mini-ridgeback, too...
And it's a rubbish photo, but her tail is variably curly - this is one of its curlier positions:
as I said, we like her…

RE: Hello
Thanks for the welcome, everyone. Patty - I live in Edinburgh when I'm not working, which is most of the time. The plan is to bring her back to Belgium - no quarantine required - and from there I will be leaving on a trip with my other half - and Delta, of course. The long-term plan is to be able to bring her back to the UK, yes, but that won't be for a while.

RE: Cody baroos!!!
Delta has roo'd once - when she saw a snake. Apart from that, no screams, but we have the range of squeaks, cat-yawns, huffs, and grumbles. Little squeaky barks when people come to the house at night.
The video left her utterly unimpressed… -
RE: Honest Names
Delta is a francophone dog so is variously 'monstre', 'casse-couilles', 'chasseuse', 'voleuse', 'bandit', or 'crazy-chien'…
(Monster, Pain-in-the-neck/a*se, Hunter, Thief, another variation on thief, or Crazydog).
"Papershredder" would be apt. And "Shoe-kidnapper", although that's a bit long...

RE: Hello
Might be a couple of days - pretty busy at the moment - but will make it a priority. She's not as classy-looking as some of the Bs on here but we like her…

Hello
Hi to all,
Been lurking for a little while but didn't join… time to put that right.
My dog is Delta: 6 months old and a native of Democratic Republic of Congo where I am at the moment. She's not a pure Basenji, that's for sure; a little bigger and longer than a purebred (11.5kg), a slimmer head and more or less grown out of her wrinkles - but the eyes are there, the beautiful neck, the build, the stance, the tail. And the noises! She's a sandy red and white. Have had her since she was 7 weeks old (mum was already dead and she had only one littermate left...).
I will try and post a photo when I have the chance. From the photos I've already seen, there are some very handsome dogs on this site...
