I've decided on the name Faithful. It's the name of a cat in one of the series by Tamora Pierce, great read btw if ya like young adult fantasy type. Just didn't want a name bunches of pets might have like Mojo.

RE: Finding Kismet a playmate!
Here's the new playmate! He's got an URI so treating him right now, hopefully he'll feel better soon. Still getting used to Kismet running around and the new place so he hides a bit. His name was Blackjack in the shelter. I'm debating if I want to keep it or change it. Some other ideas I had were Mojo, Cashmere, Casanova, Whimsyβ¦

RE: Finding Kismet a playmate!
I was thinking about getting a kitten but I'm afraid she might hurt it accidently when she uses her paws/nose in play. So I'm checking out ones about 5 months that seem a lil more "sturdy" and can give a good smack back if needed to make her chill out

Finding Kismet a playmate!
It's time for Kismet to have a friend I think. But she'll soon be having a "different" buddy then most would get for their dog LOL. I'm limiting myself to two dogs and two cats, and as the dogs positions are full⦠a cat it will have to be! I've got a couple potentials who are being fostered with dogs, so I can be sure they will get along with one. I'm not able to bring her to their homes plus their about an hour from me so they can't come here So I'll just have to see how they interact with the dogs of those houses.
I was able to finally see her with another cat today when I went to a shelter that'd allow me to bring her. It was really cute, the cat would smack her on her head very nicely (no claws!). Wish the room was bigger to see if they'd play chase. She didn't seem to know what to do with a cat that wasn't growling at her anytime she tried to touch it. The other two pets of the house are seniors and don't want anything to do with her
Tomorrow I have appointments to stop by two houses that have two kitties that might fit my needs. I can't wait! I would have just taken Blackjack (the shelter kitty) but I didn't want to rush into it. Wanna make sure my new baby is the right one!
Just thought I'd share, I'm so excited I'll share some pics of them soon as the new addition gets comfortable.

RE: Thought you might like this! Cat on our walk!
I love cats! I think thats what draws me to the basenji's is their cat like personality I'm looking into adopting a new kitty now (my Gypsy girl passed away last year) and hope to find one that's 1) cuddly sweet and 2) playful with my dog. Kismet's so sad that my Jenny (other cat) and Bear (chow) refuses to play with her since they're so much older. Hopefully the younger blood coming in will be a new buddy for her!

RE: Questions before I get my Basenji pup!
Texas currently does not have a puppy lemon law. If a suit were to be filed you'd probably have to do it under Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

RE: Kismet learned to lay down!
There's an intermediate class but it's full right now. If I'm able to get the days off I'm going to try for it later.

RE: Summary: the first two days with Oakley
I don't know what age your new dog is but I found this website that explains the developmental stages that might help you out a bit: http://www.diamondsintheruff.com/DevelopmentalStages.html

RE: Kismet learned to lay down!
Graduation photo! We did the last day test and she passed with ease (luckily they didn't ask us to do the "leave it" command or it would have taken a while LOL). She's so photogenic when she wants to be tho!

RE: Co-worker Meets A Basenji
I guess I'm lucky that whatever Kismet's mixed with makes her an angel in the car She normally will lay down in the backseat while driving unless she wants to stick her head out the window for a bit. And whenever I run to the store upon my return she's sitting or laying down with no wear or tear I've come across so far. Now if only I could come back to my room in the same shapeβ¦

Kismet learned to lay down!
It took all of the training class. And many unsuccessful attempts⦠but my baby finally learned to lay down! LOL During the lesson she'd put her head down, throw her front paw at me, and dance around the idea of laying down. We had to try a few different ways of urging her to the position (holding the behind down and finally bringing the treat under my leg while I was sitting down). Ofcourse she only does it once or twice then I'm forced to do the tricky learning process all over again to remind her what to do. I'm just so proud of her! Now if only she'd act like she wanted to come to me from a distance while I had yummy treats for her...

RE: BRAT facebook - basenji killed by pitbull
I wish people were more responsible pet owners and made sure their dogs were well socialized and trained. The majority of attacks are because someone was negligent in restraining their animal and there are normally past instances that the animal will become aggressive so when they say they "didn't know" or "it's always such a sweet dog with my kids/other animals/etc" they are just denying the truth.

RE: I saw another Basenji walking in my neighborhood!
I saw a basenji at the dog park I like to go to once, Fleet People's Park in Winter Park, FL. Was neat to actually see one up close like that for once. I've never saw a full blood one, just my mixes

RE: Could she be a basenji?
Where'd ya find it for $30? Is that in american or some other? All the ones I found were 75+. I'd love to figure out what my girl is mixed with LOL and that sure is more affordable!

I think your pup was helping you get your upgrade on. You should thank em! Smartphones FTW!

RE: Death Toll this week
Is the only broken part the screen and/or LCD? No fault of my dog, I finally cracked my screen on my motorola droid after a year of random drops and no issue. Terrible first day of the new year But there's repair shops that will fix that for a pretty fair fee compared to replacing the whole thing. And actually since I didn't pay for insurance on my phone (verizon charges 6/month and on top of that an 89 replacement phone fee) its cheaper! Found one place that charges 80 bucks to replace the screen.

RE: Demodicosis

RE: Has anyone used BilJac food?
I was reading up a bit on fanconi and found this website that states as part of the protocol: (http://www.basenji.org/ClubDocs/fanconiprotocol2003.pdf)
2. Any good quality dry food may be fed, with the addition of at least one can per week of HIGH PROTIEN ?wet meat? mammal meat based dog food (Beef,
Lamb?etc.) to replace long-chain amino acids and phosphorus. Poultry based foods have proven far less effective in management of this disorder then mammal based meats. The only exception to this high protien diet, in this protien-losing uropathy, is documented renal failure (increasing BUN/CREATININE). In this type situation, see the ?RENAL FAILURE HYBRID PROTOCOL? section later in this instruction setMy dog doesn't have this but I feed Wellness Core and she loves it. I also feed senior wellness to my older chow who's a picky eater and just add a bit of wet sometimes and he gobbles it up

RE: The Christmas "Beast" that almost wasn't
Kismet was safely (and securely) shut away upstairs during any food and door traffic activities so I have no good stories to tell⦠but I was watching mythbusters the other day and on their holiday special they talked about the damage a frozen turkey could do to a dog! I didn't get to see the whole show, but one part showed their "dog" and with the turkey falling on it causing the back to fully crack. I never even thought of something like that ever happening. Hold on to them turkeys and other heavy meats tight!
Tho I did find out my baby is a scaredy cat. When we'd let her down after people came over she'd stand on the stairs watching someone and back up anytime they made a move toward her. Then step forward barking a bit then back up the stairs.. was funny She also made a dash after being walked and let in the front door for the back patio (sliding glass door was closed at the time!) And full speed right into it... unfortunately that's not the first time she's had door run-ins LOL. She seems to learn her lesson right after and checks to see if a door is there, but forgets it later on.

RE: Male Tri- Daytona FL- 12/15
I didn't think you were giving that impression don't worry I just like to explain things that the shelters do. I do question a lot of the animals they decide won't be put up for adoption, I'm sure my manager is ready to fire me because of it LOL. I also try to explain to people there really is no such thing as a no-kill shelter. A responsible shelter will not try to place aggressive animals, they may foster the ones that could possibly be retrained or ill/injured ones. But unfortunately there are very few people who will want to take on that kind of work. And thank you every one who happen to be those people! And I try to tell the people who feel the county animal services are such bad places that they truly aren't. Many of them refuse to rescue an animal from there because they aren't "no kill" which doesn't make much sense to me. Shouldn't that be your first stop then if you're truly rescuing? But I digress, good luck in finding this lovely guy a home!
