I also encourage you to contact them… I got my first girl through them and they are dedicated to ensuring the best placement of their guys. They interviewed me numerious times, and came to my home to inspect where the potential pet would live. Not only that, but they spent time educating me on the pros and cons of a basenji (yes, had me look at damaged new couches, etc on internet) then taught me how to be the best parent I could be- and were there for me 6 months later when I had questions. Next, they helped me get my girl.... I think she came from over 3 states away. They organized a transport between themselves in order for me not to have to drive a long way to get her - both thinking of her safety and mine.... I cannot express how much I appreciate all of their efforts as a team.... and I can tell you that if you have to give up your girl, thinking of her best interest first, they will make sure she will go to a good home....

I'm so sorry this is working out like this, but I'm really glad you got him out of his bad situation. I'm from rural Ohio (though in CA now), and I know what those shelters can be like. I also know what it's like to realize that a rescued dog really isn't going to get along with another member of your pack–if you recall, I had to send a really sweet basenji mix to rescue when the resident Airedale tried to eat her. You did a really good thing, though, and Mowgli will find a good place to grow up into a fantastic dog.

Ok, I do not think this is off subject, still think they are called martingales, but I have been in search for over 4 years for a particular collar. My first girl that I got thru BRAT was wearing one when I got her. The outside was a strong material with backing, the inside had a type of 'thick elastic band' that tightened when tested. So it is the inside of collar that tightens, outside part of collar doesn't - I LOOOVEED this collar - maybe not for lure activities, but for home and walks- it was fantastic-plus they looked great… I did call my BRAT contact to check where I could get more, but they were not sure. SO, if anyone knows what I am talking about, please let me know.... it was about 10 years ago when I got my girl. Thanks --

I was taught to use a little Olive Oil to help with meds. -plus when they do not want to eat due to health. Tablespoon. However, I would suggest speaking with your vet. if you give along with meds. - Suggestion about broth earlier is excellant ... also, I figure you know already, to keep as much energy in your baby to fight and function - giving nutri-cal type product esp. since Meeka is not eating- I've been in this type of fight before.

I will definitely consider. I just feel more of a responsiblity to her than the other dogs I have rescued. Probabley because I want to keep her because I love her so much. But I need to do what is best for her in the long run. I just want to be the one who decides where she goes, personally inspect their home a couple of times, and then be able to check on her. Plus, if it doesn't work out, I can go get her myself and bring her back home. But I am open to changing my way of thoughts on this. D

I sit in rescue booths myself, and I have to tell you, its one of my favorate things to do.
I represent 3 rescue groups, all b's for me, but one is an all breed dog rescue. I enjoy folks who come over and tell me about the dog we rehomed to them.
Good feelings and wonderful for the dog.

I just went to 'Wolf Park' at Tulsa last weekend and could not find a basenji group. I found a general adoption group that I gave my name and number to in case of basenji fostering or in case of emergency. I decided that maybe I would get myself prepared for next year's event and host a basenji boothe. Not sure yet, want to be well prepared before commitment. But if I do, I thought I would contact a few BRAT people and the Local Basenji Chapter once I got organized to offer participation. I realize that I could only start the interview process there, and no dogs could be placed that day --but it could lead to some good homes for mis-placed basenjis- and answer questions for people who already have them. I did find one couple that had mix basenji from pound - Yeah for the adoption! They had always wondered why she never barked... Anyway, I could use some constructive advise on this possible adventure. D

No, I have not. And Yes, they are Fantastic! I got my first girl thru BRAT and suggest them a lot to people who want a basenji. She is going to be difficult to place due to her particular needs. The person who gets her will have to provide better home environment than I can or I will continue to pray for the right place. Made a personal promise to myself and Her. But any help BRAT sends my way, will be greatly appreciated.
