My 9 yr old Basenji has the same problem and when I scratch the tip of her ears, it looks like dirt is coming off along with her fur. I don’t think it is allergies but will try vitamin E oil on her ears and adding 1 tsp olive oil to her meal. Her coat and skin are also flaky.

@tanza yes I sent it in last week. Thank you! The vet is going to do an ultrasound next week.

@tanza also, I did have her blood work done for glucose but it came back normal. I don’t know who her breeder is since I rescued her from a neighbor who passed away unexpectedly.

Incontinence and thirst
My 8 yo Basenji, Astoria, a rescue we’ve had for 4 years, is the sweetest dog there is. Her original owner passed away and we took her in. She has had problems with her teeth (gingivitis) and it was as part of blood work done prior to teeth cleaning that the results showed high ALT levels.
Astoria has been drinking a lot of water and has been having accidents in the apartment even though I walk her 3-4 times a day. Based on the blood work and other tests, the vet has her on Denamarin and the Science Diet / Liver food. However after 5 months of treatment, her ALT levels are very high. I am taking her to an internist for more tests but after reading the forum, I am dreading the fact that she might have Fanconi disease. Have any of you had a similar experience? I live in NYC and will take her to the Animal Medical Center for evaluation versus going back to her vet. I am so worried.
