RE: Puppy! (name to be determined)
Hopefully once I get her home it will be easy to tell what fits her better, because I'm awful at making decisions! I'll try to see what she likes better also..

RE: Puppy! (name to be determined)
I believe one of his friends child named her so that could explain the boy name, but I kinda like it!

RE: Puppy! (name to be determined)
Her breeder has been calling her Derek, so I might stick with that.. Her breeder is Hawaiian, so I am considering Derek in Hawaiian, which is Keleka.. I also like Brielee… won't decide until I bring her home!

Advice for raising two females
I will be getting my female puppy Thursday and want all the advice I can get on what I need to do to make my situation work. My resident male bmix is about 8/9yrs and has successfully lived with a female basenji twice, pretty much the entire time I have had him. But I have never had two females at the same time. My female BRAT rescue, Bananas, that I had for two years moved a couple hours away with her other owner three months ago. I've always wanted a puppy and have missed having a b in the house so decided to get a puppy. The uniqueness of my situation is the puppy will live full time with my male, but will also spend time (probably once a month, when I go out of town for work or other owner does) with my female Bananas. after much discussion with the breeder, we decided on a female pup. Main reason, harmony with pup and my male is most important, because if necessary, the two females can be separated permanently. We decided I will have bananas come live with me for the first six months, so all three will be together. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Puppy! (name to be determined)
Oh that is funny!
I got to meet four puppies from each of the two litters and some of the parents, all of them were great! I had so much fun and Kyle and Steve are so nice. I fell in love with one of the male pups but we decided female was best for us.

RE: B m and his 2 mix offspring? in TN shelter
Indiana is doing really well! He is very shy but warms up quickly. He is very easy going, and gets along great with my female B and male Bmix. He is house trained and crate trained, which is a big plus. His stool sample came back with hook worms, so we started him on dewormer today. He gets his vaccines and HW test Saturday, and neutering the following friday. He is going to make a great family pet for someone, he is so cute!

RE: B m and his 2 mix offspring? in TN shelter
I will be fostering the male B, Indiana, for BRAT. Those mix puppies are so cute, I hope they find good homes.
I will try to post pics of Indiana and let you all know how he is doing once I get him. He is being transported from TN to OH on Saturday-Sunday, so I will have him Sunday afternoon.

RE: Adoption???
It's hard to answer those questions as each dog and adoption takes a different amount of time. Before you apply for a dog from BRAT, you have to fill out a general application. Have you done that yet? Someone should contact you within 24 hours of filling out the first application. The first contact from BRAT will just be a welcome letter with lots of info in it. Once you have done that, you can apply for a dog. You can apply for a dog before you get a home visit, but a home visit must be complete before you can actually adopt a dog. The time it takes the coordinator to get back to you about a specific dog is going to differ. All the coordinators are volunteers who have "real" jobs, in addition to the work they do for BRAT. I would think you will hear back within 3 days, but thats just a guess. Not an answer of yes or no within three days, just a response to tell you they got your application and tell you the status of it. They pick the right family by reviewing all the applicants that applied for the dog, talking to the foster family, they might narrow it down and then ask the top 3 families questions to get a better idea. There are many things the coordinator can do to pick the right family. The timeline for the whole process cant be deteremined, as each dog will have a different number of applicants, and some coordinators are busier than other. I would guess it could take anywhere from a week to a month or so once you apply for a specific dog. but thats is just a guess. if you have any more questions feel free to ask and I'll try to help!!
And I think its great you are considering adopting from BRAT! I've had great experiences with them!!

RE: Basenji Youngster in PA
Sarah - Does BRAT pay an adoption fee? I would like to know this boy has a forever home and is with an owner who knows the breed and what to expect….as I'm listening to snarling over a toy!!!
I'm not sure if I'm answering your question- but from what I've been told, BRAT will pay for him if he is fixed and up-to-date on shots, and they will pay equivalent to what it would cost BRAT to do those medical things, so usually between $100-150. BRAT has been in contact with the rescue group, but she has not agreed to give him to BRAT. Hopefully if she keeps him she will do as she says in the post and place him with a home that knows B's.

RE: Basenji Youngster in PA
Vicki- I asked about adoption fees earlier this morning. She said starting at $140, small dogs and pups usually $150. depends on sex and size, as the adoption fee depends on cost to fix the animal. keep us posted.

RE: Basenji Youngster in PA
I know BRAT has been in contact with bethann, but she has yet to release him to BRAT. I am only 2.5 hours from him, so I may be able to help if someone wants to adopt him.

RE: Meeka
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
It was such a hard day, and I miss her and think about her all the time. I find myself randomly crying, but I know it was her time to go. She was very sick the last couple days, and it all happened so fast. She was peaceful and calm at the vets office the final day.
It so strange though, I feel like she's not really gone. Like she's going to come back, or I'm going to get home from work and she will be waiting.

Meeka
Rest in Peace Meeka.
Two years wasn't nearly enough time to share with you, but I will cherish the memories we made. As my first basenji you will always hold a special place in my heart. You will always be remembered.
I love you and miss you, Princess.
