I've been meaning to post the Fanconi results here, but we have had alot of health problems within the family, and I have been back and forth to San Antonio.
Anyway, Great news, Wookie and Bi-Bi both have tested Fanconi clear. That's a big load off my mind right now !!
Thanks,
Dee

RE: Would changing his food help?
Yes, it is very easy to do yourself. Every dog I groomed, had their anal glands excreated too. It's not SO bad once you get used to it!!

RE: Bitches age for first and last litter
I had an ooops litter once, Sissy, the mother had the puppies (7) cleaned them up and everything, but would never feed them. I had to physically hold her down to let the babies nurse. Once they got full, the mom would leave them. Luckily we had another female, Kamina, who would take care of any baby!! When Sissy left, Kamina would take over and teach them how to be a Basenji and dry nurse them. Ironically, when we purchased Sissy at 3 months old, Kamina had a litter at that time, and was nursing her puppies and Sissy. I have a picture and it looks so funny seeing the little bitty babies and this huge 3 month old nursing. I tried to make Sissy stop nursing, but Kamina wouldn't have it. GO FIGURE !!
Anyway, age along with maturity is a big issue!!!
I wouldn't want to go through that again… -
RE: Free Basenji in Southern Illinoisan newspaper
I agree, I don't know how anyone can put a dog down just because it does not sell or is no longer "needed". There is a breeder near me who does that, but instead of taking the dog to the Vet, she shoots them. I think she is getting out of breeding. I have one of her older dogs that is living her life out here along with a couple of my older dogs. It tends to get costly, but it's like you said, "when you breed you are responsible for what you bring into this world" you are also responsible for what you purchase.

RE: Poo Problem
If everything checks out okay at the Vet. Soft or runny stools and constipation can also be treated by giving the dog or puppy a little bit of canned pumpkin several times a day.
I used to use Purina puppy food with my pups. When they changed the ingredients, every one of my puppies got diaherra. What a mess to clean all day with 6 puppies !! I took them to the Vet, got meds that didn't help, then remembered about the pumpkin and tried it with a new brand of puppy food…. IT WORKED GREAT !! -
RE: Heartworm and flea prevention
I have used it for about 3 months now. Seems to be doing good so far. I was Leary at first, I'm so used to the oral heart worm preventive !! Doesn't seem like something that goes on the skin could work as well.
My Vet says it's great and she has been using it and advantage on her dogs since it came out. -
RE: I'm show dog illiterate
I don't know much about showing either. For years I keep thinking I will get into showing, but due to health issues within the family, I can't really get away for more than a few hours at a time. We do have a local club that Francis Carlisle (Papalote Basenjis) runs, Bee-Tx Kennel club I believe. I think they have shows here in Beeville once a year. Guess that would be a start ?? and probably as far away as I could go!!

RE: Where does your basenji like to be rubbed?
OOOOH THE BELLY !! My girls love their bellies rubbed. They will turn on their backs and scoot up next to me. If I don't rub their bellies right away, they nudge on my hand until I do!! In no time they are snoring….zzzzz ....
Isn't it funny how loud a B can snor ????? -

Basenji owner or breeder in Long Island, New York
Hi, Does anyone know a Basenji Breeder or individual owner in Long Island, New York ?
I have a gentleman wanting to purchase my last puppy, but the problem is one of his children has allergies. I would really feel better if he could take her around a Basenji to see how she will react before making a purchase and shipping the puppy.
Any help would be appreciated !!
God Bless,

RE: Cute 5 month old basenji for adoption in houston
HI, I am so glad you have changed your mind. Just keep him crated when your not home and he won't tear your house down. He should be getting better about now. When you first took him, he was taken away from the only home he knew, so he was very upset, nervous and wanted to come back home, that's why your house was tore up. Once he is used to his new environment it won't be so bad. He will still chew up everything in his site as I have warned you, if you do not watch him and crate him while you are gone!!
Keep me posted…. -
RE: Cute 5 month old basenji for adoption in houston
Hi, I did not say I would NOT take the puppy back!! If I sounded hesitant, it was only because I wanted you to give it a little more time, as you only had the puppy less than 24 hours. I apologize that you got the impression I would not take the puppy back. You said to be fair you would keep him a week and see how thing went. If it did not go well, if I minded you adopting him out to another home provided they could properly take care of him. I recently took back a 6 year old dog I sold as a puppy and have now placed her in another home. I have never refused to take a puppy or an adult back!!
