  • Non Traditional Fencing solutions for yard.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We live in the country with farms around and the agricultural fences are economical and not bad looking especially with the black vinyl coating and I never really heard if basenji owners had any success with this type of fence. If it was totally up to me, I'd build fortress walls but that's not gonna happen.

10 gauge on top and bottom wire. All the rest with 12.5 gauge. It's not the actuall deer fence stuff, closer to fences for horses. Black vinyl coating on wire. I am asking for samples of all types from manufacturers. Hot wires is a great idea.

    Hi,

I was hoping to hear from members on what type of fence material you are using and at what height for your basenjis? I am fortunate enough to now be able to build a new fence for a big yard within the next year so I am researching like crazy. I know a six ft wood fence would be ideal for basenjis but that isn't going to happen for me nor a chain link. What I have been looking at is more of an agricultural, deer protection type fence of heavy gauge wire two inch by two inch squares that is supposed to be non climb, non rust, long lasting. Height will probably be between 5 and 6 ft. Has anyone any experience with this type of fence and what do you think?

    THanks,

  • Basenji, I'm Overwhelmed…..HELP!!!

I have found the website http://www.dogstardaily.com/ to be very helpful in all training. The training textbook tab is where you want to go.

  • Training Questions

I think incorporating some crate training if none is being used will help. If you take him outside and he does not go potty, when you bring him back in, he must go in crate for about twenty minutes or so and not be allowed to roam or play. Then outside again to potty spot. If he does not go again repeat in crate for twenty minutes then out to potty spot and naturally praise like crazy when he does go. The idea is to get him to go potty when you want and where you want. I felt using the crate was extremely beneficial.

"Jagger" Karnaks Raven Rock N Rollin', my first and only basenji is probably clear/normal for fanconi syndrome. Just received results in mail yesterday and it really made my day to say the least.

Thanks for the reply's everbody. I have been checking everything I can online including www.offa.org and http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com.
This is my first time searching for a puppy and I was basically just trying to find out how I should interact with breeders. I understand they are very busy and I don't want to be a pest nor do I want to be overlooked as someone just sorta interested. I am just trying to cover all bases and I 'm probably a little too excited about finally having the opportunity to own a dog. Thanks again.

  • Ready for basenji
    caseeno8C caseeno8

Hello everyone, My name is Chris from Pennsylvania and this is my first post. I have been reading through the threads since I joined and it's a wonderful place for information. I have finished the long process of deciding if I am ready for a Basenji puppy and now that I am would like any input as to good, honest breeders in Pa and surrounding states. I have been or tried to contact several with limited success. One in NJ did call me after I sent an email and we had a good conversation and I appreciated that very much. Hopefully soon I will be going to see her dogs in person. There is another breeder 45 minutes from my house which I called but she never called me back. That sort of thing bothers me and I guess that is kinda where I am looking for guidance. Both breeders are on the BCOA website and are probably good people but first impressions are making me lean one way instead of the other. Should that kind of thing impact my decision with breeders? Sorry, this became longer than I expected but I just want to make sure I'm going to get a good dog from a good breeder. I didn't put names or anything like that because I didn't know if that is allowed and I don't want to talk negatively about anybody.

    Thanks,
    Chris
