@debradownsouth I've wondered if there's something further back in her lineage that's smaller, or I suppose maybe she could've been a runt. Putting those 4 dogs together though, I NEVER would've thought up something that looks like her! Strange that 4 of the most common breeds created such a unique dog!
Well, THE RESULTS ARE IN!
37.5% Siberian Husky
We could not BE more surprised! The husky and even the pitbull were expected, but we were shocked by the boxer and rottweiler! We thought for sure that she must have some type of small breed in her lineage, as she's only 27lbs and at 9 months old not expected to get much bigger. It took me some time to wrap my head around it, and much internet research has been done in the past 12 hours. The thing I couldn't quite figure out was where her curly tail came from. It turns out that some boxers have curly tails that we don't see because most boxers' tails are docked in America.
So it looks like we've got a Boxsky, y'all!
But its a pleasure to keep looking back at photos of such an appealing animal !
Thank you! If you have instagram, she's got her own insta @bigearsblueeyes if you want to check out her photos and follow her adventures!
I keep going back to the corkscrew tail and the shape of her ears...my first thought was maybe akita or shiba, with that curly tail...but the short white coat wouldn't really fit with either of those. Genetics are a funny thing though, so it's hard to say. It's just interesting that not many breeds have blue eyes, and not many have corkscrew tails, and not many have ears that stand straight up at all times. And in the month we've had her, i've never heard her bark. Not once. She definitely "talks" to you, and i've heard her bay like a hound and yodel like a basenji, but never bark. Her ears look sort of like an ibizan, but she's not that big. Her vet says she may fill out a little more, but she'll stay pretty compact and lean. She weighed in at 25lbs yesterday.
She's definitely unique, and I feel pretty lucky that we got her out of all the applications and those interested in her!
@eeeefarm I hadn't thought of dalmatian! Interesting. She doesn't have a spot on her, but it's possible!
@elbrant I was trying to do some research and find that out myself; so far no luck.
@Zande I took her to the vet yesterday and he is pretty confident from her temperament and build that she's not a husky mix.
The vet also recommended a DNA test, so we've got one ordered. Place your bets now!
My husband and I adopted this sweet girl from a rescue last month. At 7 months old (currently) and 20lbs, we were told that she was likely a husky x terrier mix. Having done some research, I'm convinced she's part basenji. I've not heard her bark once; only howl/yodel. She's EXTREMELY smart, and easily bored. She's great with people and other dogs, and has the sweetest personality. She's still warming up to us but I think she will definitely be a cuddler. She has a bit of the triangular shaped head, though her nose is more square. She has the always erect ears and the curly tail. The only thing the rescue knew about her was that she had been found wandering out on a country road, and someone picked her up and tried to give her away for free on Facebook before the rescue intervened.
That being said, I have NO IDEA where the white coat/blue eyes came from. She has the bluest eyes I've ever seen in a dog! Has anyone here ever seen a basenji mix like this? I get stopped all the time by people wanting to know what she is, and I don't have a clue what to tell them!
(She doesn't stand still for very long, so it's difficult to get a profile shot haha)
