Thats how we got most of our stuff too, people see something they like and dont know how much work and money is envolved with keeping herps or fish for that matter. Plus the knowledge involved with houseing them correctly. Thats great that you too have rescued herps, most people dont give a damn about herps cause most of them arnt cute and cuddly.

RE: Reptile Room Basenji Park
pups dont need to worry he only eats fish. Also he has been there longer than some of the basenjis, so he is used to them and them to him, each have a good respect for each. Caiman are the most shy out of all the crocodillians, They are not the top of the food chain in south america, a snake is. This makes them wary, our caiman is only seen at night or if someone is going to feed him.

RE: Reptile Room Basenji Park
As for the arrowana it now lives at the baltimore aquarium, in the amazon section. Also two of the tortioses are from the aquarium as well. Yellow foot tortioses. The stuff isnt that hard to keep, just takes a little knowledge and time. As for the caiman, that actually is an alligator, he has moved on to better things, he was being babysat by us. The caiman we do have is a smooth fronted caiman, its a dwarf type it will only reach a max of 5ft. We will have to post some picks of him.

RE: Ears standing up
Barking? basenji do bark, even the full africians will bark. As for the ears falling back down, my first basenji had rather large ears. His ears didnt go up till he was about 15 weeks old, so this is just something that will happen. Back to the barking stuff, basenji can and will bark, its just differnt than when domestic dogs bark. Most pariah dogs do not bark, because most of these live in tropical areas and are preyed upon by big cats that use the sound of a bark to find the tastey meal of a dog (favorite meal of big cats). Basenji live where there are leopards and some lions, both will feed on basenji.

RE: Digging
This is just makeing a nest to lay on, wild basenji would do this with grass or dirt to make it soft for them to lay on. Now digging in the yard is a differnt story, basenji will dig for a number of reasons, females will dig to make a den for pups, males and females will dig to get cool or stay out of the sun. They will also dig grubs and grass roots to eat.

Greetings all!
Hello to everyone. This is great, finally a place where crazy basenji people can converse about the great breed we have. Well to introduce myself, I am also staff at Basenji Park, along with basenjiboy and dogtravler. My duties there are physical training and grounds keeping. I also go along with dogtravler to some of the shows where i am kennel staff (dog walker). I own some and coe own some of the 6 basenji we have, not sure which ones anymore lost track after the 4th one. I also am in charge of many other creatures at Basenji Park, we also have a smooth fronted caiman, a number of turtles, tortioses, and lots of fish. The caiman and the turtles are housed in lake Basenji (a pond in the basement). I will post some pics of the other residents of Basenji Park. Basenji has posted most all the pics of the dogs so i will post some of the others.
