  • Basenji 5K?

Hi there! My b-boy Jack is just about 3 years old & we run (jog) 4 to 4.5 miles and walk another 1 to 2 just about every day. We built up to that by alternating short segments of jogging with longer segments of walking, and gradually adding to the distance we jog. It’s taken about a year to build up to doing this distance as often as we do. We go out before dawn, but even then I’ll dial it back if it’s too warm. He keeps up just fine with my galgo, and hasn’t shown any signs that we’re over doing it.

I love my morning runs with my boys - I hope you have a great time training with your pup!

Please check the symptoms for aspergillosis, a fungal infection. My basenji boy developed one after he inhaled a foxtail. The foxtails can travel internally, and the only way to know if there's one there is to do a full scope. They'll also be able to spot a fungal infection that way as well.

I used "Tinkle Trousers" with disposable diapers on one of my senior basenjis who became incontinent - they worked great.

  • 15 Year,9mo. Basenji - Seizures started 3 months ago

I had two basenjis, a female and a male, not related, that started having seizures in their senior years. Because of their ages I opted not to do a lot of testing. We treated the first one to have them with potassium bromide for a while, but stopped because it only provided minimal relief and the side effects weren't worth it. The other dog we didn't treat. Other than a period of disorientation immediately after the seizures there didn't seem to be any other lasting effects. They lived to be 18 & 17 years old, but I probably aged a few years from those experiences!

I'm so very sorry, I understand your heartbreak. She knows how much she was loved. Allow yourself to feel all that you're feeling and know that the grief you feel wouldn't be possible without all of the love and joy you shared.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I had to say goodbye to my sweet Kona yesterday. He started to lose his appetite in early September, and what we thought was IBD was in fact intestinal lymphoma that was spreading rapidly. It's so very heartbreaking, and I can't imagine losing two in such a short period of time. My thoughts are with you.
