my Ninja trims his back feet nails but lets his front ones grow.. I assume for pouncing and digging.

my questions are simple.

Thank you!

RE: Picky eater!
Right now we are sticking to dry food because I heard dry is better for their teeth… but after all the additives it ends up mostly wet! haha I read somewhere else that going grain-free is the key. Do you see any truth in that? Another owner said to try Wellness because it is grain free and basenjis hate grain. I want to try dehydrated foods like NRG but we are on a budget and it's bit pricey. Thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I'll give it a shot as a last last resort.

Picky eater!
Are basenjis usually picky eaters? My basenji, Ninja, refuses to eat. He starts off on a food fine for a few weeks then stops wanting to eat it. I'm not sure if he gets bored easily or what. I've tried adding cooked eggs, cheese, meat, doggy gravy, yogurt, etc but he just eats around his food. I've tried Eukanuba, Blue, and W/D Prescription Diet for his diabetes. Yes, he has Diabetes at 1 yr old and that makes this situation even more tricky. He needs to eat regularly in order for me to inject him with his insulin or else he will go hyperglycemic. And, if he doesn't eat/I don't give him insulin, he can't control his urine and he has a lot of accidents.
Any advice? Has anyone found a food that their basenji loves?? Please help! I have already consulted my vet and we are out of ideas.

Excessive urination
We've had our basenji, Ninja, since he was 9 weeks old. He is 10 months now. Up until about 2-3 weeks ago he was generally potty trained. He started sneezing a lot over multiple days so we brought him to the vet. The vet determined that Ninja had a bacterial infection in his nose and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic. He mentioned that the anti-inflammatory would cause excessive peeing. Well, it did cause Ninja to drink and pee more than normal and he started to have accidents in the house and even soil his crate nightly. He was only on the meds for 5 days. Since then, the urination issues persisted. He is still having to go pee every 1-3 hours and wets his crate every night. He also drinks it. I plan on bringing him back to the vet this week but someone please help. Has anyone been through something like this? My previously house broken basenji has suddenly reverted back to a bladder control-less invalid dog… Oh and I have called the vet to voice my concerns but he said it may still be the meds...but really, 2 weeks later??

RE: Sick Basenji…...Not sure what to do
My basenji is 9 months and recently started showing the exact same symptoms… it started when he started taking medication from the vet for a sinus infection but lingered even now when he's off the meds. I haven't brought him back to the vet yet to have his urine checked... did you discover anything from your vet??
