Mica was in a plastic crate when she first decided to adopt me and walk into my life when I was gone at any time. But this was down in El Paso, TX and I didnt want the apt magrs. to know I was keeping a small puppy due to three months from retiring from active duty, not wanting to pay a security deposit. So, she was a stow-away and used to be lured with a peanut-butter kong- and treats, treats, treats into her crate when I left. Her tail used to wop-wop-wop against the side and she had a little wiggle butt - when I walked into the door. Since than, she has been allowed free reign(sp?) to creeping and crawling around where I live now. Little if any destruction has occured. She gets walks and has toys and is generally a real good 4-ped. She seems to have a visual memory, if she does something, and I catch her, and say "NO" she seems to remember with almost one correction. But she has managed to "own" my small collection of stuffed animals…and I have given them to her....

We used to go canoeing in the BWCA during the summers up in MN when I was growing up and we had a husky/shepard/wolf mix 4-ped. She always came along on our wilderness canoe trips. She learned to sit in the bottom of the canoe and than even would sleep in the canoe as we canoed. She was also usually positioned in the stern of the canoe so that there was more room and someone could watch her a little so that if she did get excited, she wouldn't rock the boat as much as she was capable of doing. But lots of fun to take her along.

That is a really good description. I can almost see her doing the hunt for cicadas.
Ive seen Mica chase butterflys, and dragonflies for quite a distance while on walks. She also gets excited about flies… to the extent that she will wait for me to "capture" the fly in a glass than set a paper lid on top if it is up on the ceiling and than she'll almost shriek ( in doggie language) as I bring it down to her level for her to capture it and munch it. She eats flies.

It looks like "another spammer" hit 8-posts, all about 1-2 minutes apart with the same post on the same day… And where is "Array?" except on the internet?

What does "wow gold", "wow power level", and "world of warcraft gold", have to do with Basenji Forums?

i woke up thinking about little jackers and all the joy and pure love he shared with the world…and how you shared it with the forum...may his memory be a blessing.

Try the web-site www.lurecoursingfanatics.com. She has a website and takes time reservations. You can purchase a punch card for the runs, too. This is not a formal lurecoursing like the AKC trials, or however I have read how they do this… She has a large fenced in yard in the back of her house and than people bring their dog-cages and use those or generally, keep the dogs on leash, too. She is very organized. The dogs go, one at a time on the lure coursing course, and it is strictly for fun. I think it is just in Somers, WI. Off of I-94 south toward Chicago just past Mitchell Airport and at exit 339 if I am correct, just heading out of Milw.

I get that even with Mica my little b-mix. Somehow, people seem to know …a basenji... yesterday Mica and I were lure-coursing near Milw. and another couple had a little red-b and they came up to talk to me about what kind of dog was my Mica. Needless to say she was barking at the lure-course on the other side of the fence, waiting for her turn. We had fun talking and the most important lure-coursing.

Mica has many different eating habits. One thing she has learned to do because I will (it is getting to "suggest" to her…) is to make her sit before she eats. So she pretends she doesnt notice the food being put down and when I walk away, she gets up and eats. She also likes to eat when I eat, also. Or sometimes I prepare her meal, and she'll sniff it than its not good enough because she'll just walk away...grrr. Also sometimes I put a tiny piece of my food into her dish and she than eats also. Or, sometimes she will eat once a day, or sometimes twice. But she likes her yoghurt, too. I think she likes variety because I feed her kibbles and part canned food but I always try to make every meal a little different.

Welcome. Im in badgerland too. At the mad city.

Just another idea… Basenjis appear to be notoriously clean... at least I find Mica to be...maybe hes trying to clean off the dust from walking outside by licking each paw pad...the baby wipes suggested sound like a good route, too. I know my Mica loves attention and absolutely thrives at being the center of anything at all ...sometimes I just give a pat and tell her its okay or just look at the "owie" and that seems to soothe or make it better. It may be that same kind of dog thinking...making the senjis feel even more a part of the pack in cleaning and grooming and attention to their little doggie wants by the alpha...

I was living in El Paso Tx for a while and that is when Mica wandered into my life and adopted me. There are alot of thorns and prickers everywhere, and it could be invisible prickers from the fauna. Mica learned to lift up her paw and tell me that she had a larger sticker in one of them, so I would promptly pull the sticker out. I think I learned to scope the bottom of her paw pads after a walk sometimes, too, to see if there were any unnecessary pickers sticking out there … some of the stickers are almost hairlike and invisible and theyre nasty little things. I would do it by just rubbing my finger tips on her paw pads to see if there was anything sticking out, almost invisibly. He might be cleaning the paw pads and and may have a little dirt in some of the pads too... His paw pads may still be soft from a different environment as the desert is a bit harsh, too...alot of sand, cactus, hot weather ... unforgiving soil and little precipitation... maybe his paw pads are toughening up, too.

The bug spray for dogs I got at petsmart was …. is Mosquito Halt. It was on sale but the bugs are so bad here I deceded to get some bug soray for Mica.

I actually found some bug spray made esp. for dogs to repel mosquitoes and other bug beastlies at pet smart. Mica doesnt like being sprayed but it seems to cut back the swarming. I actually forgot the dog bug spray in a most recent walk with her and used my own regular bug spray on me than sprayed a little on the fur on her haunches and her cute little behind too, than sprayed some more on my hand and rubbed her fur on the sides but didnt do the front end of her. We walked pretty quickly through the woods part into the field part where there are less bugs. The bugs are swarming her in WI and one darn't even go outside in the woods without thinking of protection. They are relentless! Ive never worried about doggie mosquito spray with dogs to any great extent but this year they are nasty…
I than gave her a brushing at home and cleaned her with a soft wipe at home. It seemed to do ok for the moment but next time Ill use the doggie bug spray I got at pet smart.

Mica bit a bee and the bee bit her last summer and than she was a bit lethargic so I took her to the vet and they gave her some medicine. I think she remembers bees this summer because she stays away from them now, but she still chases flies which I have to catch in the condo and than let loose at her level out of a glass so she can catch it - and shell eat it sometimes, but now its mosquitoes added too. And the model airplanes that fly with a remote switch up in the sky are also her newest thing.
BaMicas mom
I might agree with that… even tho I dont own any house birds; Mica chases the diving swallows, red-wing black-birds, and any other moving thing that flies at the dog park, to include tiny house flies at home in the summer with a delightful unbounded joy...
