My dog does exactly that. We make fun of her cause she always does it when we come home. We tell her "Bow to your parents". And I always thought she acted more like a horse when she plays. She rears up and paws and so many other crazy things. She is like the best dog ever. Always puts a smile on my face no matter what.

RE: Protection
Mine is actually a red. But she is also a mix. I am still trying to figure out what she is mixed with, lol.

RE: Protection
Yes, she got lots of extra love and a treat. It was late so there wasn't too much time to celebrate late night. But I plan a special dinner for her tonight with and extra special long walk too.

Protection
So I have an interesting story to tell. We have had our new "B" Cleo for about a month now. Other then a little bit of whining here and there she usually doesn't make a sound. She does seem to muster up a semi bark when there is a strange person knocking on the door. I think she is trying to protect us, lol
Well last night something new happened. Me and my boyfriend went to bed and closed the door to the bedroom. She has the rest of the condo to herself. Quick side note, my boyfriend is a police officer. So as soon as we turned the lights our she started to bark. We knew something must have been wrong. We both jumped out of bed and my boyfriend grabbed his gun (thats what police offiicers do). As soon as we got to the living room we heard a loud argument. Seconds later we heard the guy yelling that he was going to shoot the other person and that he had a gun. I called 911 and they were already on their way. I boyfriend never got involved but it was kinda a scary situation. Thanks to Cleo we knew about before it even escalated.
After that they took the guy away and we went back to bed. Not more then a min later Cleo barked again. We jumped out of bed once again, lol. We take her making noise very seriously, because she doesn't make noise unless something is wrong. Nothing was wrong this time, but we forgot to lock the door after the whole situation was over. I guess she just wanted to make sure we were safe. I gave her lots of praise for being such a good dog. She really makes me feel safe now.
I made a joke "I guess she is like the modern day lassie. Timmy didn't fall down the well, but some guy is going to pop a cap in someones ass outside, lol"
P.S. I live in an extremely safe neighborhood. Nothing like that even happens, its usually really quiet. The most exciting things that happen are skateboarders running around, and that about it.

RE: Throwing Up
Ok. what you have said makes a lot of sense. I am currently feeding her Purina One Sensitive Systems.
- Salmon (natural source of glucosamine), brewers rice, pearled barley, oat meal, corn gluten meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), fish meal (natural source of glucosamine), salmon meal (source of fish oil), non-fat yogurt, animal digest, salt, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, Vitamin E supplement, choline chloride, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, niacin, Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, garlic oil, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), sodium selenite.

I will most likely change her food, but I need to finish this bag, before I do. My main concern is, Can I continue to give her the egg without hurting her?
Thanks

RE: Basenji Myth Busters
I was just thinking the other day, that my dog was ADHD, she can be completely 100% interested in something, walk away, and move on to something completely different and its all within a couple of secs. and she acts like what she was so interested in, never happened. LOL
Also, I have noticed that she sheds tears. Sometimes it just breaks my heart. "B"s really know how to work you sometimes.

RE: Breeds That Bite
I agree. I think the more abundant breeds will have higher numbers for the top 10 list. However, it is really the owner that should be held responsible in most cases. I know for a fact that Pits and Rotts can be extremely sweet and loving dogs. Hell I have had a couple people tell me that theirs Pits are better with their kids then any other dog.
Unfortuently, the type of person who owns a majority of these animals, are not the highest caliber of people and just want the dog so they can make it a big mean guard dog. So that is my opinion on the list.

RE: Throwing Up
Ok, I know this thread keeps going and going. I have not had her throw-up for about a week now. She is getting an egg with every meal. I have had a couple people tell me they are concerned that maybe its not a good idea to give her an egg everyday. However, when I ran out of eggs last week the throwing up started again. She really confuses me and I want to do what is best for her.
Any thoughts on the egg thing? Thank you again.

RE: Basenji Mixes
I recently got a Basenji mix. I am not sure exactly what she is mixed with though. She is about 40lbs, but looks almost 100% Basenji. She is very powerful and a little broad chested. I am lucky with her though. She exhibits all the great characteristics of a Basenji, but almost none of the bad ones.

RE: Ciao from Italy!
Welcome! Welcome! I can't wait to visit Italy someday. I am hoping that i will get to go there on my honeymoon, whenever I get married anyways. That was a very touching story about how you got your puppy. I can't wait to see pictures.

RE: Hi from Pennsylvania
Wow, that is a wonderful story. I am sure you are going to be extremely happy with your "B" mix. I have had mine for almost 2 weeks now and I have fallen completely in love with her. Good luck, enjoy the forum and post pics

RE: Throwing Up
Thanks again for all the great advise. We have been feeding her Purina One Sensitive Stomach. I feed her one cup in the morning and one cup at dinner time. I would love to try something else, but my income doesn't allow me to afford the more expensive foods (I spend about $17.99 on a 20lbs bag). As far as boiled chicken, I wouldn't mind, because I love to cook, but chicken is sooooo expensive here in California. Its usually about $5.00 or more for a couple of breasts.
If anyone has any other suggestions or can recommend a food that is close to my budget, I would appreciate it.
thanks

RE: Throwing Up
Update:
I ran out of eggs yesterday, so she didn't get any with her dinner last night. When I woke up this morning she was heaving, a couple mins later she threw-up her dinner from the night before. She seemed just fine afterwards though. So I didn't give her breakfast this morning, I am going to get some eggs on the way home from lunch and give her, her food then. I am still confused about the egg thing. -
RE: Greetings from Chicago
Welcome! I am new as well and I already love the forum.

RE: Throwing Up
Thank you for all the great advise. I have changed her to one cup in the morning and one cup at night. I am still putting and egg in and she eats everything right away. I haven't had her throw-up in about 3 meals now so I would say that I am on a roll.
I will keep my fingers crossed.

RE: I am new from So Cal
Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I would have loved to have gotten a "B" from the so cal rescue, but she talked to me on the phone and was quite rude to me. I asked to come see the dogs for adopting and they never gave me the address, I called a couple different times, but never got a response.
I was lucky enough to find my dog at another rescue, with the help of petfinder.com They were wonderful and I absolutely adore my Cleo.
