New addition from Duchess's Mom. Yesterday my two B's were doing the Basenji 500 and did a body slam or some such in the bathroom and knocked a hole in the wall at least 10" big. I was shocked. First time ever, I've known that 'run' to cause any damage.

RE: The Worst thing your dog ruined!!!
Where does the list begin and end with my B's. Most expensive was my hearing aid, several pair of glasses (including the first half hour of a visit from an old friend) Lost count of the remotes we've replaced. Shoes, and bras number to countless.
I thought I was a good housekeeper, then thought I was a more careful one. After 3 years with B's. I resort to anti-depressants, and prayer. LOL Thankfully more lately, things are rather normal. I can put toilet tissue on the roller again, and torn up napkins or such is the only casualties.hAVING MEMORIES of TWO B's FOR 15 AND 17 YEARS previous to these, kept me from slashing my wrist. Love those B's.

Dew C;aws
Just recently I was told by a B owner that dew claws should be removed when puppies are just a few days old.
Both my B's are AKC registered and they both have their dew claws.Any input on that??????

RE: 2Bs vs 1B - How Much Different w/Multiples
This is my second time around with Basenji's. My first two were one female (spayed) and a male (Liter mates). My female lived 15 years and the male, 17 years. I got them at the same time, so don't have the expeirence of adding one that time. I was always convinced they lived long healthy lives because they had each other.
Ten years later, I acquired my female. When she was 1 1/2, we decided to add one more, and this time also a male. (Chosen for his domestic qualities and championship line. As I said before. Only a few minor problems adding the second one The female has always been just crazy about him, and they are ideal companions.

RE: 2Bs vs 1B - How Much Different w/Multiples
About six months ago, I added the second basenji to our household. Like you, I got on this site and ask opinions of 1 vs 2. Our gal was about 1 1/2 when we got our male, who was six months old.
It really worked out great in our case. Duchess was demanding an enornmous amount of attention, and now she and Ramses really enjoy having each other. They eat together-no problem, play together and share a huge crate at night time. Occasionly they get into a short ruckus over sleeping space, but a quick reprimand usually ends that.
As for walking. I do use two leads at times, but usually use a split lead that works quite well. Ramses had never been on a lead, or even inside a house, so he adapted wonderfully. I expected lots of problems but had very few. So I am very glad I decided to add the second one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. -
RE: Tail colors
I got out Ramses's paperwork, and two generations back on one side, it listed a black and white grandparent. All the others were red and white's..So those few black hairs on the tail were an interesting throw back to the black and white. Thanks for all the replies.

RE: History of Bs as hunters
Being from Florida, I've been to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. They have art all through that. They have several large paintings depicting Basenji's taking down water buffalo by attacking in packs, and ripping out it's underbelly area'. So someone somewhere heard about that method of hunting in the wild.

RE: Tail colors
Thanks for the reply. I am assuming the tri color gene must be in Ramses line also. I saw both parents and all the litter, and they were all red and white, yet all the pups had the black hairs on the inside curl of the tail. So I guess he isn't the only one.
