Isis is now 10 months and seems to be in heat…. She has minor discharge of blood, oder, etc. I was hoping th spay her before this happens but it looks to be too late. How long should I wait now before I do it? I would think that I should wait until she is back to normal? Any advise is welcome.

Isis has some fleas… I can see them and can pick them out..... But I am worried about using Frontline because of her cleaning habits. Any Recommendations?

RE: What do you feed your Basenji?
Hello there! I actually work in holistic dog food and nutrition and hope to help. If you're sticking within the same BRAND of good (i.e, Blue Buffalo) and Dexter doesn't have an ultra-sensitive stomach, you can switch freely without any transition time at all.
This is very good to know, Thanks!

RE: What do you feed your Basenji?
Isis is also using the Blue Buffalo puppy formula. When is it a good idea to switch things up? I too could not imagine eating the same thing day in and day out, but I am concerned with changing her diet. I have started to use the cowhide bones as treats, ( and to help with the teething). My socks are thanking me… LOL.

RE: Very amusing!
It also detracts from their beauty…. Perhaps I will only use it when we are "out".

Very amusing!
Well Isis is now 10 weeks and is doing great in her new surroundings..People and other doggy socializing are going well too.. I just put her first collar on and you should have seen the reaction….Running all around the house....Scratching, jumping, spinning in circles,... eventually this subsided when she got a hold of her bone.

RE: Who's training whom?!?!
Just an update for all after one week of Isis being home with us….Potty training is going great....Not one accident in the house yesterday, We leave the balcony door ajar and she goes out and does her business no questions asked. She is also seems to be comfy in her crate as well... Not much crying at all and she walks in and out of her "casa". This is to Tanza...
Sheila Maxwell doesn't do Fanconi DNA testing (or any health testing for that matter before breeding
Have you heard anything negative about this breeder? I plan on doing the DNA swab soon just for piece of mind. Please advise… Thanks!

RE: Who's training whom?!?!
Thanks Pat for the quick response…Isis is 8 weeks old... I got her from Sheila Maxwell in OK. As far as the health she was checked by a vet before we got her. This was only the second night we have had her. The first night it was about every two hours or so that she got up and made noise, so I still need a bit more time to get her use to our schedules. I work nights and get home late, and my wife works early mornings, so tonight a normal weekly routine should commence.
