Hey everyone, just received a Female Basenji; Laika is 4 months old and she is very very shy and seems to be scared most of the time. Is this normal? How long will it take her to act like a "normal" dog?
Thank you in advance,
Sam

@tanza she was raised at home, with a huge garden. But i think traveling from France to Beirut had an impact on her. But now she is doing better - she needs to feel more comfortable with the rest of the family
@steven12 Laika is doing great! She finally feels safe at home. She is very calm yet she plays a lot. At night she sleeps in any bedroom (in her bed)... i'm sure the best is to come..

Thank you all for the time spent on answering my query - Laika is being more comfortable at home, and likes going out for a walk:)
She still needs to be more comfortable with the rest of the family (she feels safe only with me) but as you all said, we nee to give her more time.
@Zande Her registered name is Princess Laika from "Elevage De La Tribu Val'elsy" France
@debradownsouth Laika is being more comfortable today, but needs to be at ease with the rest of the family (she only trusts me)
Don't forget that she had to travel from France to Lebanon, so i guess this had an impact on her too
@zande Hello! Princess Pipa is here too - a freind of mine is taking good care of her.
Just to inform you that Laika is doing super great today, she feels more comfortable at home, she plays, runs everywhere and loves going out for a walk.
Thank you for your kind assistance,
Cheers,
Sam
Hey everyone,
Long time:)
Laika is almost 8 months old now and the BIG question is: Should i sterilize her or not? Some people say i shouldn't while others say i should... I'm lost...
Would love to hear your feedback!
Thanks a lot,
Sam

@cherif Hi. You need to know that the Basenji tends to become emotionally attached, thus you can't keep her away from you, specially at night. (They were developed to fear the dark, and this is an inherited trait that’s difficult to break.)
regarding her "peeing" issue, you need to figure out what is the cause. In my opinion, she is doing so because you are away... but with time she will get used to your absence during the day. Here is a tip: Get her a Kong, and everyday, before going out to work, put some Peanut butter inside the Kong and it will distract her for a long time.
PS: share pics of Pipa:)
Cheers mate,
Sam
@eeeefarm Thank you very much! Will start implementing what you have said
@eeeefarm Thank you !
And what about leaving her for 2 hours alone?
@tanza She is thank you ! However i have a small problem, don't know if you can help: how can you make her stay alone for 2 hours without crying her soul out, and without destroying everything in the Kitchen? Last night was her 2nd night alone in the kitchen and you don't want to know what she did... i think she was committing suicide lol... any recommendations?
