28 pounds for a male Basenji is not unusal. His markings definitely resemble a Basenji.

I have a six year old Basenji female and I have never had a more affectionate dog. She loves to be petted, lay in my lap and have her belly rubbed. At night she sleeps under the covers with me and some part of he body has to be touchiing mine. Basenjis were tribal dogs in Africa and were very loyal to their masters who fed them.

My adult 8 year female still like to play with and destroy the cardboard paper towel roles. She throws it around and then likes to shred it. Whee in Texas? I am in Killeen and love to find another Basenji owner close where we could meet occassionly and let our Basenjis play.

I walk my Basenji twice a day. I also take her to a dog park two or three times a week where she can be off the leash and play with other dogs. It also is a large area where she can exercise her legs and really run at full pace.

Definitely has some of the makings of a Basenji mix. His small size is also an indication of a possible Basenji mix.

Of course if you could find another dog/Basenji owner you trusted this might be the best option.

When I cannot take my Basenji girl with me when I travel, I leave her in boarding with my local vet. I feel better knowing she is there in case she needs medical attention while I am gone.

22 to 24 for females and 24 to 26 for males is what the standard call for.
