RE: Meet Zeba- red/white girl from Georgia
Thank you Patty for rescuing a beautiful girl! Zeba is so fortunate you came into her life She is beautiful and I can't think of another person who can teach her that humans are here to love.
For those of you who don't know Patty, I am proud to say she is my little sister and my best friend in the world She's been rescuing animals her whole life, from the age of 10 when she attempted to rescue a field mouse from the mouth of her cat, to the age of (#%X) and she rescues Zeba from a horrible start in life. In between there were countless others, the German Shepard left in a dorm room at college, the Border Collie "Angel", Buddy the pet store dog who needed to be bought from the mall to free him from the awful cage, the kitten full of fleas left in a dumpster.
Over the past year, since loosing her beloved beautiful basenji Lucy, who she rescued from a young man who didn't have time for her, she has concentrated her efforts into helping basenji's. Lucy Looโฆthank you for coming into my sister's life! I know she's smiling from doggy heaven
Thank you all for the support you give Patty as she posts on this forum! I know your kind words are appreciated
Love you sister !!

RE: Looking for a basenji
I'd like to let you know that I bring my two Basenji's to the dog park nearly every day and they Love Love Love it! I have one male, one female, both approx 4 yrs old. When I get home every day from work they are waiting for me with leashes in hand to get out the door and play with their friends. Even in the dead of winter now, snow, ice, cold, windโฆthey still want to go and run with other dogs, even if it is just for 10 or 20 minutes.
My male (Bacchus) is not very interested in socializing with people at the park now but for the first few weeks he actually avoided the dogs and played with the people. Becca on the other hand really avoided both until she adjusted. She adjusts well in new situations, love to visit people, cuddles up on laps of strangers and will lick you to death!
I wish you all the best with your search. You will find the right dog for your situation.
Merry Xmas....Cathy

Blood in stools
I'm looking for help from my fellow basenji lovers!
My dog is 4 yrs old. I noticed blood on his stool and actual drip by his rectum. I brought him to vet and he diagnosed Colitis. He said it could have been caused by something he ate, maybe a piece of stick, a piece of bone, etc. We had a course of antibotics and steroids and all was well. I noticed a bit of the same last week, about 2 months after the original episode.
He does seem to be straining sometimes to poop. He will do his business, and then keeps pushing and nothing comes out. He will also drag his bottom on the grass. I have had his anals emptied several times so I don't think that's it. Im wondering if it could be the food I've been feeding him. He's been eating venison and brown rice by Natures Choice. -
RE: R/W female needs a home - BRAT?
Michelle, I live in Milwaukee and would be willing to go to Michigan to help if still needed.
Just drop me a note. I have a 6 yr r&w male and we walk every morning and dog park every day so exercise would be a daily benefit. Cathy -
RE: Help with newly adopted basenji!
Hi Everyone I'm the sister referred to in the posts. My name is Cathy and I'm new to the Basenji world. I rescued a 4 yr old Male at the end of May and he is the most wonderful addition to my family. He came to me with no history but is so very loving and gentle. As you know my 2nd attempt to rescue didn't go so well.
My hand is healing just fine, but my heart aches. This poor little dog did nothing wrong. It was all human error that caused his death and I'm so sad. Sad that my uneducated behavior had a part in his being destroyed. Mad that the organization didn't give me a better explanation of what behaviors he had been exhibiting.
If I could only go back and make changesโฆ..but its too late for him

RE: Red/White NM Available in Portland, OR
I am interested in your beautiful dog! Is relocating this dog to Wisconsin possible? I have no dogs at this time. I just fostered a tri colored basenji that was moving from Chicago to Florida. Fell in love with the breed. My sister also has a 7 yr old R/W and 2 tri colors so I am familiar with the dogs. I'd love to add one to my household
