Awhile ago I had mentioned that my husband and I had a Basenji that rode across Canada with us on a motorcycle. Someone (can't remember who) asked if I had a picture. I haven't found the ones from our tripp, but I did find one of her on the bike. I wanted to make sure that I posted a picture to prove I wasn't sh*tin' ya. She did ride across the country on that bike.

And,she may have been the only Basenji to show up at a National Specialty on a Harley! Practically drove right up to ringside because we were late - no, she didn't win.

If you make the effort to crate train her properly, she could learn to love the crate. Then she should be able to happily stay there with a chew toy for a couple of hours.

That's actually a bit of a presumptuous statement, you don't know anything about her level of experience. There was a time that I didn't know that much about Basenjis, I learned, we are now on our 6th and 7th. Yes, they can be a difficult breed, but that in itself is not necessarily a reason to tell someone not to get one.

I fashioned those bike goggles out of swim goggles - those were in the days before you could actually buy goggles for a dog. She wore them quite well; lost a pair in NB, made up another pair in NS.

She was my first Basenji and she passed away at 18. Her goggles are now hanging over the corner of her picture that stands on a dresser.

Well. I don't think that she is Basenji. First time I glanced at her picture I thought "Great Dane", but I think she is too small to be a Dane. She is cute though, I like her look. Interested to know what DNA sez.

You need a ton of patience to be successful with clicker training but it works! I don't have meaningful use of my hands anymore but I've used clicker training quite successfully without using much of a lure - the dog eventually will offer behaviours that you can mark, and then slowly shape the behaviour into what you want. I don't use a marker word, I use a specific sounding mouth/tongue click. A mouth click is handy, it's always with you.

No I don't ride anymore, but I sure would if I could, and I know a lot of people who still do. I am so sorry about your friend, but not everyone who rides dies or is seriously injured.

I have had a few female dogs on Stilbestral (sp) for leaking urine. Very common in older, spayed bitches; the pill worked great and they would eventually need 1 about every 4-5 days.
Might work for males too.
