Looking at all the different pics, I see most have the super tight curl to it. Mia's tail is only like a half curl, where it almost touches her back, but also when shes laying down or eating, it pretty much rolls back straight like any other dog. Is this normal? I know it's just a silly tail, I'm just curious

RE: R/W Female in NC, 4 months, in need of a new home
A couple more pics, like ya asked Lisa. I took about 30 pics, but she's blurry in every one because she won't stand still! And no, I'm not choking her in the one.. she's chewing the soy sauce off my hand from lunch haha

RE: R/W Female in NC, 4 months, in need of a new home
Thank you all so much for your help and information over the past few days. The people here are much more generous than I'm used to and it's refreshing.
Lisa, you seem so genuinely excited that it makes ME excited for Mia to go to a loving home. I'm a little sad but at least I can keep the bathroom door open without worrying about a TP storm when I walk by!

RE: R/W Female in NC, 4 months, in need of a new home
The longest trip we've made is about an hour. She is a little skittish if you are taking a lot of turns but once you get on the highway she settles and stares out the window. Never tried traveling with her in a crate tho.

She is still intact - I was planning on waiting til 6 months or so to get her fixed.
And I will work on the papers, I guess. The breeder seems more and more sketchy as this unfolds tho

RE: R/W Female in NC, 4 months, in need of a new home
I am in the process of searching for a small adult female Basenji. I have already filled out an application with Brat and am waiting to hear when they will schedule my home visit.
However, I am keeping an open mind on getting a puppy. I would like to ask you some questions : Do you have papers for her?
Do you know if her parents were on the larger side or smaller size?
During the day when you are gone, do you keep her in a crate?
How is she coming along in housetraining?
Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.Just to let you know, I have been walking 3 dogs once to twice a week for the last several months. Two of the girls are Basenjis. I adore them and can't wait to have my own girl someday.
I do not have her papers. The breeder gave me the AKC numbers of both parents if I wanted to register in the future, but it didn't seem important at the time.
Both of the parents were on the smaller side, as is Mia - she was 11 lbs at last vet visit a few weeks ago, but she SEEMS to have hit a growth spurt recently.
She didn't really like crates at all, so I set up a decent size exercise pen for her, loaded with chew toys. This worked well until she learned to climb after a few days, so now it's covered up She sleeps in bed with me at night to limit the crate time, and she curls up in a ball behind my knees.
Housetraining is kind of rough. She has adjusted to my work schedule, and as long as I take her out at pretty much the same times every day, there are no accidents. But getting her to actually TELL me when she has to go out is the tough part. I've recently started trying to use wind chimes, but she likes hitting it all the time like a toy, so it's a work in progress.
I've looked up her parents also and it doesn't appear that they were ever Fanconi tested, so I've ordered the swab test to get her tested. Wouldn't be right to pass her along without that knowledge.

The contract doesn't say anything about having to give her back. I have contacted the breeder tho, to give her the option if she wants, but she didn't return both of my voicemails yet this week.
I filled out the form for BRAT also. I'm just trying to get the best chance possible for her by putting up multiple ads or whatnot.

R/W Female in NC, 4 months, in need of a new home
It breaks my heart to have to write this, but I am in need of a new home for my Mia.
While I was in Iraq, I had a lot of downtime and doing research, concluded I wanted a Basenji - high energy, independent, short hair, and just adorable. I was in negotiations to get a house with a nice back yard for her as soon as we got back stateside, so I made arrangements with a breeder to pick her up in January.
But now I've come down for orders to go back to Iraq in a few months, with a follow on assignment in Italy afterwards. With our work schedule suddenly going nuts, I no longer have time to come home in the morning and after lunch to take her out on walks.
She is still in need of another series of shots, which I will take care of in the next week or two. I will also donate money to have her shipped, and for spaying costs also.
I've made a posting on BRAT, but these forums have been a source of training tips for me in the past, and most of you seem to have a genuine love for the breed.
If anyone has any way to help, please contact me. My name is Marc Jordan. Day or night phone is (603) 321-5668, and email is evilzug2000@yahoo.com
Thank you..

RE: Night time problems!
So last night I let her sleep in the bed with me and my girlfriend..
And it went pretty well.. she woke up at 2am and I took her out to pee real quick, and then she went back to sleep. The only real problem is she loves to pounce on Aly's hair and start gnawing on it, but other than that⦠no howling and I was able to get a decent nights sleep.
And the best part was no messes to clean up this morning - she definitely didn't want to go potty on my bed (Thank yooooooou) haha
thank you guys for the help hopefully she stays this wonderful
