Hi everyone,
Introducing Safi, my 16 week old pup.
Thanks to Sally for introducing me to Rosita last year and though that didn't work out I did get a pup a year later.
So far no allergic reaction for me, which is great though I'm getting to grips with the breed and their traits.
I'm glad I found this forum and I look forward to getting help and advice here!
Nigel
I have exactly the same problem at the same age 9 months with Safi. She had her heat at 7 months also. I gave her a good bath a couple of weeks back and it's much better now, back to the normal sniff and she's left alone, aside from one very persistent dog she sees in the park but she's slowly learning to defend herself against him.
The smell of the season hangs around long after it's finished apparently.
Thanks Pat, hopefully she read the memo and will be done for the year. I don't miss the zooming, though it was somewhat entertaining. She's sleeping a lot and not as into everything as usual.
Thanks all, I did mean to share the pedigree info, forgot to put it!
Dam: Tadrose Red Fire
Sire: CH Nganga's It's One Heck of a Storm
Breeder: Tadeus & Rosita (Tadrose)
I can only say what worked for me really, it's something the o.p. can try, if it works, great!
So, Safi's just gone into an unexpected 2nd season this year, last one was mid-July.
She's been very sweet and a bit clingy but being so clean I barely noticed the real reason!
Here are some recent pics, she's 11 months tomorrow.
Eek no power for 8 days, what a nightmare! Well done for coping with that.
Yeah pumpkin is great. I've cut Safi's food right back, I was actually following a guide the whole time and she would be quite fussy on the food, leaving most of it sometimes, I realise now that it was because it was too much. Since I've cut back she is much less fussy and will clear it. Her scavenging on walks has increased though and that's quite annoying.
Nice, they are about in a few different adverts, I spot them every now and again.
OMG, nooooo! She's so good now, it's not time for terrible twos! I have noticed that she does need to be told multiple times to do things nowadays but she's very well behaved in general, we have a good understanding going on.
Thanks for the warning!
In addition to what Elbrant said, you could try valerian or st john's wort for calming. You could also try desensitising him, drive to the vet a few times (if it's practical) but don't go in, give him a reward for staying calm etc. I'd personally avoid pharmaceuticals.
I don't get other dogs in the yard but I do get foxes, she will sniff but isn't bothered.
My B won't pee or poo on my property at all or even in the vicinity, I have to take her for a walk down the road to get her to go. It started around the same sort of time, before that she used to go in the garden or drive no problem.
It was actually based off this photo. I got the AI to describe the photo, then I got it to generate a new image based on its desciption:
Thought you might enjoy these, the first one was created with Adobe Firefly, the others with MidJourney, the first three are generic Basenji the last two are based on Safi:
@elbrant Yes, she's good an patient sometimes, I've been taking pics of her from day 1 so she's used to it, I'm allowed a couple of mins and no more though.
