• The Wisconsin basenji club had a fun day/picnic this past Saturday and it was a lot of fun. A short and simple lure course was set up, which Zoni got to run twice. Plus, they had a hands-on conformation presentation with some of the dogs at the picnic discussing the different elements of the standard. I managed to get Zoni in there for some critique as well which was really helpful.

Plus, it was nice talking with Nicole from the forum.

Here is a video of her running the lure course. It's less than half the size of a typical course. It's definitely in her genes so it was nice to see she likes it. I didn't notice that the leash was under her feet so it got a little whipped around at the beginning. I CAN'T WAIT till she is old enough to compete next year.

The next two are just pictures of her sitting in my lap. I thought the first one was a really nice head shot. I think she has a really pretty face, but I'm partial.

This one is, of course, the typical basenji neck twist.

  • And as a second thought… if you look at the long white hairs that cross into the black near her jaw line and below her collar...do I need to trim those or can I just leave them be? They are a little weird looking since it makes the white/black demarcation a little less clean. They stick out a little too and don't necessarily lay flat against the rest of the coat.

  • That was a good run in an open field. A lot of times they cut across. Very nice looking B too!

  • Nice run! She looks like she will make a really good courser next year. You can hear Katie barking in the background. That makes me laugh.

Zoni is a sweetie, and a really pretty girl. The structure lesson was really cool too. I learned so much. It was great meeting you, and thanks so much for the donation!

  • If on the show side, I would trim them up just a bit

  • Houston

Very cool to see. She did so good..and you are right her headshot is very nice

  • Great video of Zoni, i wish we had Basenji fun days in the Uk.
    She's a beautiful girl.

  • nice story!!
I would not trim those hairs you are talking about, but then again I think most show people would do for some reason, allthough I am showing my dogs I dont trim them like that, i prefer the more natural look and they are winning also this way 😉

  • Looks like Zoni had lots of fun. She is a cutie!

  • Thanks everyone for the compliments! :D:D They just put some pictures up on the BCOSW website. I pulled this pic of her coursing.

  • She looks like she is having a ball….

  • Houston

She is on fire…watch out everybody..

  • She is such a cutie!! I am so glad you had a good time.

I know! It's funny how excited you can get watching them run. It's going to be so long until next spring when she can actually do it for real.

  • Not sure how I missed this thread…

Anyway, she is very cute:D:D...I can't get over how big she has become. And I love the video - she looks like she was having a blast. I can't tell from the video...was it fenced in?

I wish they had lure coursing around here...I think the closest I've seen it is CT - 5 hours away. I'd love to have both Ruby & Liyah give it a try - although that said, I guess I'd have to get over the fear of letting them free w/out a lead and a fence.

BTW, Nemo, I love your new avatar! :D:D Very cute!!!

I know! I can't believe how much my baby has grown up. :p:D

Yes, there was a fence. The host of the picnic has horses, so we were back in one of the pastures. However, the fence only had wires between the posts so they could have gotten out if they were really really determined. But I think everyone was pretty comfortable with letting their dogs loose. I was pretty okay with her doing it since she was so determined to get the lure as soon as she saw it. I wasn't so much at a coursing trial where the fencing was really far away and the field was open.

And thanks about the avatar…it's one of the few pictures I have of the both of them awake where Zoni isn't mouthing on Nemo's neck. :D:D (Poor Nemo!)
