Breeder?s Choice Pet Food of Irwindale, CA has announced a voluntary dog food recall involving one of its products due to possible contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

The UPDATED list as of 9/14 now includes:
- AvoDerm
- Pinnacle
- Active Care
- Advanced Pet Diets
The recall affects products distributed in the following U.S. states:
- California
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Nevada
- Virginia
- Washington
Bah. We had just come across Pinnacle over the summer as a pretty good-looking brand that we were considering adding to the kibble rotation, too. Good thing we didn't have any on hand at the time.

Hello,
My pups love stella and chewy brand food.
But I never heard that they suffered from diarrhea coz of that food.
I will soon update you with some experiments.

Plain yogurt may be better for calcium than cheese and is more natural than the probiotics (has a similar effect). Also, I have read that pork can be bad for dogs and should be avoided… I sure hope you can get Barley feeling better soon!

He seems to be getting a little better… I am trying to keep him hydrated and have been feeding him baby food, which he has, for the most part, kept down. He has been peeing multiple times a day and actually pooped this morning which was a breakthrough, but nothing came out that seemed problematic. He is not as active as he normally is, but he does still have a little pep. Hopefully when I get home he will excrete whatever is clogging up his system.

The last time this happened, the doc took about 12 x-rays but could not really conclude anything from them. So I ended up paying about $1700 to just let him pass it on his own. They did give him an IV, which I think helped, but I didn't figure out what was going on until he was already dehydrated last time. I think since he is keeping down the water/food I give him and is consistantly peeing thats a good sign. If he starts to act more lethargic, or starts to vomit what i give him, I"ll take him in....

So have they closed all investigations? Did the FDA pull their investigators out of China? I have not seen the anything that has been finalized about all of this so if you could provide a link with that information I would appreciate it.

I don't have a link handy, and don't have time to do a search this morning, but I do know that the pet food recalls ended late last Summer and there haven't been any more since then.

In Feb of this year, the FDA did indict two Chinese nationals, one Chinese business, one US company, and the president of that company for their roles in importing the tainted gluten, which was imported between Nov. '06 and Feb. '07.
I'm sure the info can be found at the FDA website. I'm almost positive that's where I got my information.

I went to two health food type pet stores yesterday and asked a bunch of questions about the different types of holistic dog foods and other foods that they had. I came away from both stores with several brochures and tons of food samples!! From one store I got a plastic grocery bag FULL of Timberwolf Organics and from the other store I got a bag full of EVO Innova samples. Enough to feed these guys for more than a week!! I had no idea that you could get samples from the stores!! The dogs seem to love both brands. We're taking it slow though so I can keep track of the reactions. They currently eat Nutro Max Ultra Puppy.
