OMG, That is sweet and so Basenji! Amazing how quickly they grow. How old is Zaki? Imo is just under 14 weeks. Take good care and stay safe.
Show Off Your Dog
I have a six year old Basenji female and I have never had a more affectionate dog. She loves to be petted, lay in my lap and have her belly rubbed. At night she sleeps under the covers with me and some part of he body has to be touchiing mine. Basenjis were tribal dogs in Africa and were very loyal to their masters who fed them.
Basenji Health Issues & Questions
If I am not posting correctly, my apologies: your thoughts/prayers/words of comfort mean so much to me and my family (this is going to be a “first” for my Husband and I, and our 15, 12, and 4-yo). I will keep you all posted; and thank you for all of your comments/suggestions.
Here is the place to discuss training your Basenji (housebreaking, lure coursing, agility…).
Also if you would like a link/contact to a responsible breeder, let me know privately and I can help... I know that this is a sad time for you....and I would say that the issues were not separation anxiety but the fact that this pups was ill.... certainly you can contact me privately, just go to my website link for my direct email.
Please go to Basenjirescue.org and join as a member. It will show you are serious about helping. BRAT always needs good foster homes. A home visit will be required (not sure if that is possible at this time considering this COVID-19 crisis). It is especially helpful if you have basenji experience. Not always, but very often, a basenji coming into rescue has special needs (i.e., behavioral, medical, etc.). It is good to ask yourself if you and your family are willing to deal with that. Fostering is hard but it can also be a wonderful and rewarding thing to do.
Have you considered the use of dog anti-chew spray on your furniture or personal belongings? Of course, the spray needs to be all-natural and with any side-effects. Is there anyone who has made use of these type of sprays to protect your furniture from being damaged by the Basenji? I have read that Trixie Knapper Stop Spray is a good product.
@tuts Actually, I am very adept at the skill of reading and I did and the package did not say anything about "how many per day" It only said to feed your dog as a treat and to be used as a training aid. Maybe you can only read in French, because the package did have instructions in French as well, and you know what they say about the French. Sorry if my reply was too long
Basenji Puppy Pen
Post here tips on raising young Basenji.
My concern is the condo has regulations on barking and dog noise
You may find that she doesn't howl when not crated (even when you leave the condo). Leave the crate door open in case she wants to be in there, but let it be her choice. Maybe you could set something up where she (plus her crate and her food/water bowls) are contained in the kitchen while you are gone(?) -- just an idea.
Excuse me... it does... and it does concern me... this is a breeding that is related to my Basenjis and my breeding... so since you are not a breeder you need to respect responsible breeders for Basenjis. I take great exception to you and I know more about this breeding than you know. So it does concern me
Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
You may want to try and find breeders and/or owners in Italy and/or France to help you find a breeder.... you might also try and contact Zande Basenjis to help you maybe locate owners and/or breeders. You can contact Sally at Zande at www.zandebasenjis.com for her email. You can also search for a Kennel Club in Malta, however in looking doesn't seem like the site has been updated since 2002?
