How to: Upload Images

Useful information, thanks for posting it. Seems quite a few people have trouble with image upload. The other problem is posting pictures with the wrong orientation, so that they appear rotated 90 degrees on the screen. This is not a hard thing to correct before you post, and makes it easier for viewers to have a good look at your dog. I can always sort the orientation myself, but in most cases I'm too lazy to take that extra step unless the picture really interests me....

There are tools online to help you rotate your image if you don't have software on your computer or phone to do that.

Let's talk about Basenjis!
Rescue pup. Basenji?

Almost certainly Basenji in there - but whatever there is too, doesn't matter. She deserves to be loved for what she is, a cute little girl. Well done for taking her on and getting rid of the parasites and other scourges. May you have many years of fun together !

That’s one heck of a look

LMAO -- I don't usually stick the phone in front of her face. She clearly didn't understand what I was doing.

She probably just didn't have anything to say !

Basenji mix?

Shiba Inu shouts much louder to me than Basenji ! I might even question the knowledge of the Basenji breeder you met, but then, they saw your boy, I only have pictures. Whatever he is, and as you rightly say, only a DNA test will tell you for sure, he's a handsome lad and lucky to have landed on his feet with you !

Basenji atopic dermatitis

Looking for some advice. Our older Basenji (9) has just been diagnosed with allergies to dust mites, storage mites and milk - shows as itchy, sore rash on belly. Want to try to avoid strong medication as much as possible and have made the necessary dietary changes - avoiding milk and switching to a grain free diet to limit storage mites. Also trying to control dust mites as much as possible but this is more difficult! He has been on the new diet for 2 weeks now and is also on regular antihistamines and added omega 3 and 6 oils for his skin but is still itchy and sore. Just wondering if others have experience of managing this and how quickly I can expect to see any result?

leash reactivity vs aggression

I would never use a harness...and I do not recommend its use for any pups that I place, especially on a young dog of any breed... it restricts their movement and can lead (IMO) to problems later on as they need to adjust their strides to compensate for restrictive front end movement... Especially for any dog that might be a show dog and a pet... (as my are).... Try a head harness that works like with horses...

Why do they do that?
Shaking Off Like Wet

I think dogs do this for various reasons. Depending on context, it can be "whew, glad that's over!" to "well, that was fun, what's next?". At any rate, not unusual, IMO.

Brown rice versus White rice

Instead of rice, try barley.

hmmm.... I don't usually have barley in the pantry, but I'll give it a go.

Quick follow up: I made barley for the first time tonight... well, technically I made a Homemade Vegetable Barley Soup. The entire family chowed down and then doodle passed out for the night. I'm sure we will have Barley again (and I'm not just saying that because there's easily 4 servings left).

Basenji National event in Arizona

@shermanfive said in Basenji National event in Arizona:

I am looking at attending the event being held in Tuscon Arizona Nov 2019.
As a soon to be Basenji owner is this an event for observers ? Is there a cost? If I can only attend 2 days what are the "must see" events

What day is the November event exactly? To be honest, it looks very well.
