Life jacket recommendation

We live in Florida and we are on the water alot. We use the Ruff wear life jacket . We have had others but did not love one until we purchased this one. My basenji loves the boat and the Ocean but will not get in the swimming pool.

Hello. We're new.
D

Hello again! Buckley is our boys name. (I'm Dee) He was my long awaited reward for achieving a specific goal in my health's journey. Once achieved, it took about a year to find and adopt the 1 year old pup we were looking for. Apparently, he was kept in a cage for his first year of life due to the work schedule of his owners. He didn't know any of the basics - not even to go outside to do business or how to sit. He did know "cage" and Nite-nite. He's a reallllllll cuddler. He's been through basic training and we've been slowly socializing him. He's much less nervous around other dogs than at the beginning. He's Sweet. Super Fast. Loves the heat vent more than his bed. (it's in the low 30's here. who can blame him?). He'll be two at the end of May.
The other side of his heritage is alleged to be Red Heeler, which comes in a variety of shades. I do not know what mix exactly, is in their heritage, only that it's half cattle dog and half domesticated Dingo. I've attached a pic here that shows one that looks more in line with my Buckley but there are many that don't.

Looking for family for two Basenji puppies - Djibouti, east Africa

Joan and Traci, happy to email you pictures. I will take some this weekend and sent them your way. The female is bigger in size (about 6kg) and lovely (tan with some black stripes and a lovely face) and extremely sharp. She is already trained. The male is smaller in size (about 5kg now) and very good natured. He is quieter but very vivid and active. We started their vaccination this week and they will have their booster in a month or so. I will be in touch. Thank you.

Dry, flaky skin

@prasadvaze There are wipes which you can use instead of baths, I imagine most of them neutralize odors and have a fresh scent. Perhaps try those? Mine have always had no detectable smell except after I bath them, then they smell “doggy” for a day or so.

Here are a couple of ones I looked up but I have never tried any.

What kind of smell / odor?

Here is the place to discuss training your Basenji (housebreaking, lure coursing, agility…).

leash reactivity vs aggression

I would never use a harness...and I do not recommend its use for any pups that I place, especially on a young dog of any breed... it restricts their movement and can lead (IMO) to problems later on as they need to adjust their strides to compensate for restrictive front end movement... Especially for any dog that might be a show dog and a pet... (as my are).... Try a head harness that works like with horses...

Why do they do that?
Couch scuffing

I don't have a leather couch - I have four large leather armchairs. Dogs over the years have always curled up in them (often disputing ownership with me !). Blankets which can easily be whipped off when we have visitors, keep muddy paws at bay.

But I am bigger then they are and its MY house. I do not, and never have, tolerated distructiveness and my Basenjis know and learn to respect that !

Brown rice versus White rice

Instead of rice, try barley.

hmmm.... I don't usually have barley in the pantry, but I'll give it a go.

Quick follow up: I made barley for the first time tonight... well, technically I made a Homemade Vegetable Barley Soup. The entire family chowed down and then doodle passed out for the night. I'm sure we will have Barley again (and I'm not just saying that because there's easily 4 servings left).

Looking for a breeder in Ontario/Quebec or Eastern USA

Hello all! I am hoping to adopt a Basenji. I live in the Toronto, Canada area but would be willing to travel to find the puppy. Are there any breeders here or does anybody know of any? Please don't be afraid to comment if you think the location is too far, I am open to considering any distance!

I hope you all have a beautiful day!

Matt

Basenji National event in Arizona

@shermanfive said in Basenji National event in Arizona:

I am looking at attending the event being held in Tuscon Arizona Nov 2019.
As a soon to be Basenji owner is this an event for observers ? Is there a cost? If I can only attend 2 days what are the "must see" events

What day is the November event exactly? To be honest, it looks very well.
